How does one hack an X910BT?

Recommended Posts

No, I haven't yet.. I'm kind of weary of bricking it :( I see lots of mods I'd like to do, but don't want to be the first lol

i'm using a flashdisk copy of an x910BT and all of the mods are pretty much working, so if it's working on an F700 with a x910 flashdisk copy then it should work no problem

Here is an all in one that is great, tje poster has put all of the mods in 1 place...:D

Thanks for the Link - I want to try this on my X910- the "hacked" feature set looks great- but I don't see anyone that has taken the plunge yet!

Who is brave enough to try it? :?:

Also, I have seen some issues with the Testmode software and the X910 - has anyone successfully used 2.3?

Eloquent response, ill.die.trying -

Anyway, I decided to be the guinea pig and use the six mod package on my Avic X910BT tonight.

First, this is a great package - it has everything you need to mod an Avic. Thank you to the author - Diaftia:

viewtopic.php?f=34&t=26446

Secondly, the package worked perfect on my X910BT! I am now rocking 6 new mods on my Avic - a couple of notes:

1. The instructions do not explicitly state to load the Test Mode into the root directory of the SD Card- I assumed that I needed the system boot files in the root and test mode worked perfectly. (All the other instructions were spot on and easy to follow).

2. The WINCE desktop menu options are VERY small - a pointer device is very handy to navigate the menus.

3. I made a backup of the AVIC FLASHDISK on my SD Card - if you have a 2GB SD Card - a complete backup of your AVIC will JUST fit. (and will be very handy should anything go wrong).

4. I was disappointed to see that the lawyer nag screen to get into the map was still there- not that big a deal, just sayin'.

5. I was really pleased to see that it is possible to enter a destination without the parking brake set!

6. The instructions say the last step is optional, however, I replaced the indicated DLL without any ill affects.

7. My existing splash screen and settings were NOT disturbed.

That's all I can think of for now - The MOD/HACK does require some intermediate PC skills - but I am very happy that I took the leap.

How do you make the backup?

I am trying to backup my file before I do this mode. My unit is running 3.0 firmware (originally software). I download the testmode 2.3 but I only found testmode after I unzip it. Do I need w MULTICAP or some other folder in order to access testmode?

Chris,

Sorry I missed your post - A MONTH AGO. I quit visiting this thread since most people ignore it and ask the same questions in a new thread. I have upgraded the x910 "hacks" a couple of times and I couldn't be happier with the results. The new features make my x910 one of the most enjoyable and functional GPS units I've ever used (and far less patient with inferior Nav units).

I'm glad you figured out test mode and the WINCE desktop - I backed up (literally) EVERY file when I first upgraded my unit - not just the replaced files noted in Diafta's mods. By the way - if your not using the latest (version 2.x) mods, I highly encourage you to upgrade to the latest version, a lot of bug fixes and new functionality. You can find the new mods/hacks along with VERY detailed instructions for installing here:

Thanks for the info.

I have tried to make some minor modes so far including: adding route cancellation button on the compass, a navigation mute button, speed limit/current speed/elevation, and the foreign language font. I have a complete backup file for the unit.

I like to do the Diaftia's mod but whenever I start reading the change log. I just easily get lost. I also like to start making some mod myself or incorporate other's mode but not the complete modifications. Ie, I like to add a "OFF" button on the map so I can turn the AV source OFF ( same as if you go AV source -> OFF at bottom right).

i just got my unit, dont get all my install equip until next week, so til then im going to be planning out my mods. im really debating whether or not i want to do this, my main question is that the diaftia mod is not on the latest fw for x910, will this make any problems when installing mod, im not sure what fw my unit is on cause its still on the box, but if its on the newer fw will it be ok to roll it back to the mod fw?

also if i dont do the hardwire bypass. does this have the software bypass fully operational to watch videos/dvd and control nav while driving?
