Pros and cons of this unit

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I recently got this unit and overall, I like it.

I was thinking we should compile the pros and cons of it, and send it to Pioneer as suggestions to include in a software update.

Pros:

-Fast boot up time! I love the fact it has that battery in the face so it "saves" its state

(I had the avic 700bt in my car for 1 day and returned it. Although it had a nice interface to it, holy hell that boot up time was awful. I would be down the street and out of my neighborhood before the music even started playing. AND it has to fully reboot every time you turn on your car. Might as well go back to a tape deck and rewinding tapes!)

-The music is fast, virtually no delay when retrieving the list of files from my USB or CD (another thing that drove me nuts about the 700bt)

-Detachable face!

-The color and splash screen customization is great!

-It has a nice clean look to it

-Nav for the most part is excellent

-Sound quality I find is much better than the 700bt, possibly thanks to that enhancing feature for compressed music

Cons:

-The constant freezing up of the NAV needs to be addressed

-Bluetooth keeps dropping my phone connection!

-When you are on a call, you cant access the on screen dial pad, you have to physically use your phone (for instance, checking voicemail)

-I dont know why they made such a shoddy interface for navigating your music; when you browse a list of songs, it only shows 3 or 4 lines, and doesnt ultilize the rest of the space on screen for some reason

-Along with my last point, have a touch screen function for selecting a song in a list! (one thing I did like about the 700bt)

-The sound settings are confusing to use and find (I may be nitpicking- I suppose once you have them set it doesnt matter)

-I feel they should integrate more touch control on the music portion, it seems to be all controlled by the knob; unless I'm driving on a very smooth road or are stationary, I always seem to hit the up, down, left, or right on the knob when I'm trying to select a song or a setting

-While playing a song, pressing the List button takes you to the main root directory, strange how it wouldnt just take you back to the folder the playing song is in, maybe there should be an Up Folder button on the touch screen

-I use a USB stick for my music, and for some reason, the unit doesnt order the songs by name in a particular folder, it sorts them by when I added the songs. Makes it difficult to find a certain song.

-maybe a search feature for music, like just typing a couple letters on an on screen keyboard would show a list of matches where you could just touch the screen to select the song

-For the nav component, I think they should add a feature that allows you to find a custom POI closest to you. For example, I have some gas stations loaded in my unit, and it would be handy to be able to press a button to have it locate the nearest one. Unless there is a way to do this?

-Expanding on my last point, maybe there should be a search feature that will search your POIs, like how there is for the built in POIs

Those are my experiences so far, its a good unit but it has the potential to be outstanding.

Hopefully Pioneer would consider our suggestions, if they arent aware of some already.

Anything to add?

I found Nav data base is very much out of date and lot of incorrect data in TeleNav database. The Nav screen does not show much information about the roads you are crossing. This would be really useful in cities where you have lot of oneways, parallel roads etc. You can see which is which, where you are and can be prepared/decide.

3D is pretty much worthless. I only using 2D now. And you forgot you mention the POIs stuff, no Gas stations and Restaurants, but have Cemetary? What the hell they were thinking.

BTW, did you call Pioneer about your problems? They claim they have not received any complaints about the unit!!?

Everyone please call, even if you encountered error once, and do not own POS now.
