How to: add left/right announce of destination

Recommended Posts

For those who've been on here a while you'd have known that it's been a battle to figure out how to get the AVIC's to announce which side of the street the destination is on. When I was running the gurjon skin to my surprise it did announce left/right. I looked at my tts file and it had the codes for left/right so I attributed it to the upgrade which included a new tts file or so I thought.

After I stopped using the gurjon and moved to stanislovoich/andr2000 zip the destination announce was no longer there. Off and on for the last few months I've been reviewing this in hopes of figuring out how to get it to work.

I've finally figured it out. To get left/right via point/destination to work you'll need two things:

1) a compatible tts voice file that includes the left/right commands. You'll know if your file is compatible if in the commands.csv file towards the bottom it shows left/right commands.

2) In sys.txt add the following in the sounds section. If you don't have a sounds section add it in. Here it is as it appears in my sys.txt

[sound]

announce_viadest_side=1

Here's the tts file I'm running for samantha. Install the zipped file in "My Flash Disk\APL2\iGo\content\voice" folder. The samantha tts is also posted in gurjon mod thread on page 9.

Let me know how it works. As a side note. If it announces the wrong side it's because of the map data.

Edit 11/22 to add the file location to install the tts zip.

This sounds great. But I am old and confused.

I found that I need to use your command.csv file and that is no problem to replace.

My question is after replacing that file and modifying the sys.txt file am I done?

Also will it work with the male voice?

Thanks for figuring this out. I always felt that this was lacking with the AVIC.

Thanks again!!!

This will only work with a tts voice file. If your tts file, whether male or female has the commands for left/right in them it will work with addition of the sys.txt entry. I did not experiment with interchanging just command.csv file. I used the samatha file as is. That's not saying it's not possible to interchange, it's just I haven't tried it since the tts file I have and posted already has it.

So this should work with viewtopic.php?f=34&t=27989

Absolutely. Just add what I posted above. Try it and let us know.

Yes...finally. Works like a charm. I even edited what Samantha says when I go the wrong way. Instead of "route recalculation" I tell her to say "screw you, I am going this way". I have to keep it clean for when my kids are in the car..lol

Great work and thanks a bunch. Chalk another one up for the fine people on this thread!!

I know how you feel. It's been bugging me for a while too. It's the successes people have with what I contribute that keeps me going. After this I don't what to try to solve next.

I am feeling really dim today.

I downloaded your Samantha file and have no idea where to put it. I unzipped your file on another drive on my computer just to look at and I still can not find the appropriate place to install.

I am not a total noobee, but I am sure missing something here. Can you explain what to do after you download the file?

I have no problems modifying the sys file whatsoever.

Not sure why I am finding this so confusing. I feel like a !!!!!

Thanks

M

apl2/igo/content/voice

Do not unzip the file. Install overtop original. make sure you modify your sys.txt file also.

Thanks so much for the help. I really appreciate it. My confusion came from the fact that the backup of the upgrade did not contain that folder for some reason. However it was on the Avic. After that a piece of cake. Thanks again so much for the help.. It works perfectly.

Worked like a charm. I tested it on a F500BT running hacked 3.0, with 2009.6 maps. Thank you very much N-S-E-W for figuring this out.

Don't tell anyone, it's in the info.ini file within the tts zip

Hey VeNoM0713 - Did you get this to work? So far looks like only a handful have it going.
