lsherrow
Hello everyone! I'm just getting ready to come home from Afghanistan and I'm going to get my first Avic. I would love feedback! I'm kind of a gadget junkie. Right now I have a smartphone running 6.1 and I would like to use the screen of the avic to not only show the phone display but control it as well. I have read through the posts but I cant find anyone who is doing this. I know there are Cabs to install programs like Netop on the smart phone. The Avic is running a form of CE. Is there anyone that is running this or can you point me in the direction of a post if this has been done before. Thanks for your time and help
VBLUE42
Standard BT hands free calling and phonebook transfer is supported on all current models of the AVIC lineup. A2DP BT audio streaming is available on higher end models. That is the only control supported for BT enabled phones with the AVIC line.
lsherrow
Well I'm home from Afghan and looking at head units! I was hoping for a better response then Bluetooth. That's the option out of the box! I'm looking for hacks! Use a seven inch monitor to control your phone. I'm surprised I'm the only one that is looking to do this. Video, Nav, internet on form the phone and the screen. Where are all the other gadget junkies out there that want to have your full smart phone control in the dash. A2DP Not at all what we need. VBLUE42
What other control do you need? Keep in mind! Your suppose to have your eyes on the road, not on the screen of the unit controlling your phone. That is why it is now illegal in several states to use your phone while driving. lsherrow
Thanks for the warm welcome to Avic411. Smart phones have all the same software that the Avic can do and more. The even run the same OS. They can play all music formats and you don’t have to pay for extra plugins to play MP4's. Navigation with real time, Yep no adds there as well. Just because it will make phone calls and text doesn’t mean that's all I want to use it for. Instead of helping you go the other way. You don’t even ask if there is a certain reason I want to do it. I really appreciate your negativity and your willingness to bust my balls for no reason. Not sure what I did to piss you off but thanks for the help.
VBLUE42
Ok smart ass you did nothing to piss me off until now. I was merely asking what more you wanted to be able to control on your phone with the unit as what it offers is sufficient. You clearly are one of those people that will take from what the unit does offer, and then start dreaming up all of these other crazy functions you think it should do. The unit was designed for a purpose and it does what it is suppose to do. Also, you might want watch how you respond to senior members of this forum in the future. CaptainInsaneO
No one else is looking into doing something like this because we've looked into it in the past. In fact, we've hacked away at this issue for as long as I've been around and I'm no spring chicken. No one has made any more progress up to today than had been made back when I joined Avic411. If you really REALLY wanna help us get this done (believe me, you are not the only one with the desire for things like this) then get us Platform Builder 4.2, learn how to program in assembly, or both. And try not to be such a prick. Vblue is looking out for your safety. If you're playing with your phone/headunit you are NOT watching the road.
dawgbone
I'm sure what you're after could be done with a full out carputer and writing the application yourself... That would be route I would take... But it is a saftey hazard... and I don't spend near enough time in my car that I would need any of this... Although, I would like Pioneer to open up some features for IPhone App developers...
