N3 VSS problems

Recommended Posts

I just had my N3 installed last week. So far I love it, I just have one real problem. When I'm stopped or have the truck in park the VSS shows that I'm still in motion. It will vary from around 4mph to over 20mph. This is an issue because when I stop at a stoplight the GPS navigation will show that I'm still driving. By the time I start going again the navi shows that I'm 5 blocks ahead of where I'm actually at and makes the navi turn by turn difficult to use. It also causes problems because when I put the parking brake on I get an error message b/c it thinks I'm still in motion. Then it won't let me operate those functions until I put the key in the "acc" or "on" position with it turned off. I didn't know if maybe this was part of the "learning curve" for the system sensors. I also had larger tires put on my truck a year ago and the dealer re-programed the cpu so the speedo would work correctly - would this have an affect at all? I had it installed at Best Buy and the installer said that he has had several trucks with that issue where it shows it's in motion when it's not. Not sure if anyone else has had this happen or could elaborate on any solutions or information about my problem. Thank you all in advance.

I had mine installed at best buy as well and had the same problem. the reason is that when they connected the wire they connected it to the injector signal wire (rpm wire on the engine) instead of the proper vss connection (near the computer). Best Buy is usally good at installs but i guess the place they got there install info from is a lil fouled up... You have 3 options 1) go to best buy and curse them for the incorrect install and have them try to figure ou where the correct wire is. 2 disconnect the vss wire from where they connected it and reset the learning curve will work fine only thing is the slope function will not operate(not to important. or 3 find and connect the vss wire yourself. you can tell that the vss wire is connected to the rpm wire by starting your car leaving it in park and going into theconnection status screen you will. hear beeping and see that the avic is geting pulses even though u are not moving. and if you pres on the gas you will notice the beeps get faster and the number of pulses gets even higher proving that its running off of your rpms and not the actual rotation of your transmission (cars speed). if best buy cant properly connect your system you should go and get your money back!!

Good Luck any other questions kg_smooth_1@hotmail.com

im almost positive kent is completely right. you have the VSS wire patched into the tach wire.

in all honesty, i have found that my N3 is incredibly accurate with speed without my VSS attatched.

and i wouldn't let best buy install an air freshener in my car. i understand there are those good installers at best buys, but overall they're craftmenship with car audio installs is f-ing horrible. check out www.bestbuysucks.com , its rediculous...

anywho, hope this helps...
