Johnny Five - needs more X910BT input

Recommended Posts

After much research I installed an X910BT in my truck but was not happy with the quality of the maps. I was used to portable units and handheld devices which had much better maps. I even returned the first one because I was sure it was defective! The second one had the same weak maps but after a few trips using the routing functions I decide to keep it although I had to use the male voice instead of the female which is horrible. I rather like the signs and highway markers that pop up so I tend to ignore the poor quality road displays. The Bluetooth, DVD and USB were big on my list as well.

I joined AVIC411 in the process (by the way, what does the 411 stand for if anything?) I’ve spent the last few weeks reading dozens of threads and posts to see what I could change on this thing to make it better. I used this forum and one dedicated to my truck to do the VSS, rear camera taps as well as the main bypass for parking brake. However, the thought of modding the X910 began to creep into my thoughts every time I drove the truck.

I’ve downloaded a crap load of files, copied a lot of pages, pictures and hints from the forum and need to make a decision as to which way to go for mods. I’ve read as much of DIAFTIA’s, NSEW’s IDT’s DPDURST’s and other referenced modifiers as I could, enough to make my head spin.

Here’s my main question: what kind of process is used to create these files and folders used for the modifications? I’m fairly PC proficient that I’m certain nobody is sitting there tapping away at the little screen on these AVIC’s with a stylus to change files and folders. What type of software (PC) and emulation is used to modify and test these files before actually loading then onto an AVIC unit for proofing? Can they be run on a PC thru some sort of WinCE emulator to actually “see” the results of a change to a file or folder?

I know curiosity killed the cat but I’ve had this affliction to try to find out how things work since I was a young lad of 5 who pried open his dad’s gold pocket watch with a pen knife to see how it worked. That was a lesson I’ll never forget! TIA

LAZ

Never dialed 411 on a phone, never needed help locating a phone number, but I think that clears up the forum title thing. Quite appropriate in fact. Now, do you have any other information or is that the sum total of your "help"?

Everything you need to know is on this forum so you should not need to ask questions that have been answered a million times over the last two years.

Sorry if I offended you, the easiest thing to do is ignore my posts.

I wonder if the emulator still works.

Please let me know if you figure out how to make it work.

I tried it, but always fail.

So far I can't get it to work, the emulator screen comes up but when I try to open the Main or Phone with the File Explorer it creates an error, when I seleck the Navi screen, it just sits there with "NaviMain" in the center of a blank winow. Still researching the process but not on this forum, too many snobs here that will jump right on a noob and say go search the forum.

Now I guess that's one way of telling me to F off. You may be right, this may not be the right forum for me but since I only registered on March 30th, 2010 and posted around 13 times and haven't had the benefit of your years of forum experience or 3000+ posts, I'll keep poking around.
