N1 - Sound Crackled and Now Gone

Recommended Posts

My N1 was working fine but i noticed that sometimes the sound would fade and crackle for a few seconds but then go back to normal. A few days ago as i was driving i heard a loud crackleing sound and then all audio went out and there was an odd burning smell. After i turned my car off and on there was some audio but it sounded as if the bass was gone. There was also a loud squealing noise. Turned my car off, went to drive it an hour later and all i got was the loud squealing noise, as i started driving that cut out as well and now there is no sound at all. The screen and all the buttons are all working but no audio response when i touch the screen or try to play any music. I have it amped with an Alpine v12 and connected to 4 alpine type x speakers, no subs. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Wow, that's sonds like some serious damage was done. Since you had it on the amp, you were using the pre-amp outputs, check the rca harness and see if any of the wires are burnt.

Also check if you get sound from the regular speaker outputs. If so, then you know it is the RCA pre-amp output which probably means the damage isn't too bad.

Did you remove the inline fuse? Because even if there was a short the inline fuse should have blown first as well as the radio fuse in your fusebox.

Bottom line, check your wiring.

checked all the fuses, theyre all still good, going through all the wiring now, just seems odd because ive had it in for 2 years and its been fine, this problem only started happening a few months ago, thanks for the idea tho, hopefully it is just the harness

If the regular powered speaker wires are working, then if worse comes to worse, you can use those through a converter to your amplifier. Something like the Rockford Fosgate 3.Sixty.2.
