volumedefiant
Hey guys, first of all I have the avh 4200 dvd, stock speakers in my is300 (which are very nice sounding speakers) with tweets fronts and rears, and a jl w7 12. I was trying to use the auto eq option the other day with one of my good mics made by alpine i think, but i could figure out how the hell it will work? I ask because the 4200's mic jack is on the inside where you have to raise the hu in order to get to that just like your putting in a cd. But how am i supposed to close it in order for my mic to start auto eq'ing if the mic jack is in the way? It wont even move and also the "auto eq" is greyed out on the screen so i cant click it prior to putting the mic in. Also if anyone has somewhat of the same setup as me, what is the best eq settings you have found? I can't tell if loudness is a good idea to use or not either. Thanks for any help guys. VBLUE42
What does your manual say about this?
volumedefiant
im pretty sure it says to click auto eq and then plug in the mic... but its greyed out and even if i plugged in the mic first, it wont shut since the mic jack is in the way

VBLUE42
Is your P. brake wire connected?
volumedefiant
possibly not, how can i check? The guys that installed it for me did it for free so i just let them do it, they asked if i wanted the bypass so i can drive and watch movies and i said ya... so maybe it isnt connected? VBLUE42
Well if you have the bypass you don't need the P. brake wire connected. Does your bypass work?
volumedefiant
ya it does, i actually just checked for the first time ever haha. played a movie and was driving, does that consider it working?
VBLUE42
Yea most likely. I don't really know much of the AVH series so I cant say for sure. I don't know man, you may have a defective unit.
volumedefiant
a defective unit that only doesnt show the auto eq? i doubt it. Its there its just greyed out. There are no other problems with the unit so i realy doubt that only that part does work. The 4200 slides down and up in order to put a cd or mic or sd card in since it is a 7inch screen and nothing else, and when it is open and i put the mic in the jack it doesnt slide up, because it knows the mic is there and in the way, so obviously the jack also works. For some odd reason it just won't let me 'start' the auto eq like the manual says. The only thing i can think of is that my system is simply not capable with the auto eq, as i did read some frequency issues that it supposively will have if something is too high... ill read up on it. VBLUE42
Have you reset the unit?
volumedefiant
ya a few times in the past, but ill try it again.
volumedefiant
reset it and its still greyed out. Anyone have any idea? the manual says "2. TOUCH EQ TO TURN THE AUTO EQUALIZER ON OR OFF *you cannot use this function if auto EQ has not been carried out." Don't know what that even means exactly lol.
VBLUE42
You may want to reverse the bypass you have and connect the P. brake wire and see if that makes a difference.
