JasonH
Interesting, I'm usually the first to hear of such things. It's long been hinted that we would see a new generation of units for 2012. We probably won't know anything official until Pioneer's Summer Road Show.
bit_bucket
It is using the api's that have been built into IOS for some time now that allow another unit to take full control of the iOS device; essentially transferring the touch screen control and all app access to the resulting unit. This has been baked into iOS for a few revisions but it has not been used or talked about too much. I am happy to see Pioneer being first to the game. This will be revolutionary in the car audio game.
VBLUE42
Although the 2012 units form the three biggest head unit manufactures will offer a completely new concept of how future units will work, I believe what you see in this article is complete vapor ware. Companies never allow this kind of revolutionary concept to leak like this. I wouldn't be surprise if this was completely false. The 2012 units from Pioneer, Kenwood , and Alpine will likely run some version of Android OS but I don't believe this is it.

dflebak
Just got a new Z130BT. Thinking about returning it and waiting for the new head unit that comes out on 6/22/11 with iphone integration. It's seems to have the same functionality with much greater potential. I guess there's no way they would do a software update for the existing Z130s that offer the same touch screen control of the iphone?? Thoughts on what to do??? Thanks

It's seems to have the same functionality with much greater potential. I guess there's no way they would do a software update for the existing Z130s that offer the same touch screen control of the iphone?? Thoughts on what to do??? Thanks That is my question as well. Does anyone know if this Pioneer AppRadio for Iphone will work the same way with the Z110/120 in “Ipod video mode†and the Z130 in “app mode?
JasonH
It's basically app mode with touch screen controls being passed to the iPhone. As far as I know, there is no actual GPS in the unit, it depends on the iPhone to navigate. That may be a big drawback for some.
