XM missing logo hack

Recommended Posts

So many popular XM logos are missing on the AVIC. Jason pointed out that they are missing because XM changed the names of those channels. This occurs on any AVIC, any XM receiver, and both NAV disks 1.0 and 1.2.

There is a file called TABLEDAT that has the XM channel names listed, and it maps them to the XM logo PIM files. For example, 'SquiZZ xL' is listed in this file. However, XM recently changed the xL channels to list xL first, so now the receiver gets 'xL SquiZZ'. This is not in the TABLEDAT file, so you end up with the stock satellite logo.

Open TABLEDAT with a hex editor such as HackMan. Find the channel name and switch it around with xL first. That's it! It works fine.

I haven't gotten the channels that changed their name completely to work yet, but I will get to that.

By the way, you need UltraISO to make a ISO copy of the DVD, then change the files. You will also need a Dual Layer DVD+R to burn the fill CD. However, you can make a standard DVD+RW if you delete the huge POI files first. We need sticky on how to create the modded DVD...

Am I correct in assuming that the only way to fix this would be via a modded DVD? Those logos are NOT stored in the HU, but rather on the DVD itself essentially, correct?

Right now I have nav discs v1.0 and plan to call to get v1.2 immediately. Obviously I can burn a single-layer DVD-R/RW to make custom opening screens and background screens ... but ...

If you want to "fix" the XM logos, am I reading this correct that you must create an ISO/copy of your NAV DVD, with the fixed DAT file / Images, and ALWAYS have that DVD in to correctly show the new logos?

One last set of questions then .... let me lay out this scenario ... and tell me if you think its best, and so forth ...

Ideally, I should ....

#1 - Procure v1.2 NAV DVD
#2 - Make an ISO/copy onto my HDD
#3 - Update all the XM files, and maybe add some custom backgrounds
#4 - Burn it out as a dual-layer DVD-R

That way, I would have a permanent copy of the latest NAV info, and also have my custom backgrounds and updated XM channel info for the moment. One shot, all set.

Is this what is probably the best way to go about it?

ALSO ... I only have a spool of TDK DVD-R discs ... will these work? My new Sony Laptop (bought this last xmas) has a drive that reads as "DVD+R Double Layer/DVD±RW optical drive" --- will that work? What type of discs do I need, if the basic generic ones I have wont work ... LMK, thanks in advance!!

PS: This site rocks ... :)

Thats exactally what you should do.
You will need DVD+R Dual Layer DVD's such as these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817131163

You should probably also wait until ohlarikd figures out the XM Logo Table.

Oh, and thanks for the complement :)

I'm ready to update my XM logos:

1. Any progress on the DAT table?
2. Where do I put my newly designed logos? I see that the .iso folder I made has each logo twice, one large (XMDPS) and one small (XMLPS). Is it necessary to correct both or is one specific for the D2?
3. Do the .jpg's need to be a certain size before converting them to .pim's (or do the .pim's need to be a certain size)?
4. How do apply the correct category icon to the new XM logo?

THanks for your help!

Chris

UPDATE: With no responses here, I just decided to give it a try. I saved to new logos to the larger (XMDPS) folder, burned it but it didn't work. I either put put it in the wrong folder (maybe XMLPS?) or maybe I should try doing both. It could be that the new images were too large (26kb vs original 11kb), maybe there was something more I was supposed to do that I missed.

Anyone know what I need to do differently? Resize? Move the new icons to a different (or additional) folder? Alter the .dat file?

I have tried to insert Flight 26 into the .DAT table. There are 3 icons listed before each channel name. Using HackMan, I can figure out that the first and last icon (of the three) are both the same. They represent the corresponding channel (usually: Ethel, for one, does not follow this pattern). What I haven't been able to figure out is what the middle icon represents. Has anyone loooked at this yet? Has anyone successfully added a new channel in to the table?
