ttabor
I have a AVIC-n3 and it has worked great for the last three months then today I went to replace my anttena on my truck and when I connected the battery back up my AVIC-N3 would not power on. I made sure the fuse was fine. I was getting power to the back of the unit. I looked over all of the connections and there was nothing burnt and nothing smelt burnt. Thanks. ttabor
What am I looking for
cntrylvr79
Check ALL of the fuses in the truck. A lot of times the radio's power is shared by other components. My car for example if the radio fuse blows, the domelight stops working, the keyless entry, and the headlights.
tillithz
if you meter the back and dont have constant and ignition that will easily tell you to continue looking at fuses. You can then check every single fuse.
ttabor
I had a friend benchtest the unit and it would not power on. I don't see how the antena could have caused this. So I guess the unit is fried and I voided the warrenty by flipping the switch. Does anyone have an Idea of how much this will cost to fix.
Cincycaddy
I had a problem replacing a power antenna on an older GM some years ago. Turned out one of the two leads for the power antenna (12v,trigger,ground), grounded out while I was installing the new antenna. Burnt a ground trace on the board. Â So, it could happen. Question, was this a non-power or power antenna? Â Chris.
ttabor
I am not sure if it is a power antenna or not. I just know that a part of the antenna touched the metal frame of my truck and it sparked and after that the avic-n3 would not power on. So I think I fried the system. Is there a way to tell does anyone know how much this will cost.
tillithz
yes you can tell by metering it. are my posts visible to others? cuz I mentioned that before. Troubleshooting at a shop will likely run $50 / hr. so try it yourself first.
ttabor
Thanks everyone for your help. My friend tested the unit and it will not power on. I am almost sure something is fried. I am going to take the unit to a repair shop to see how much it will be to fix.
