Hi - I've just bought a 2nd hand car that has a AVIC-HD3 installed and wondered if anyone can help me in finding out what versions of Map I have installed. Perhaps then I can upgrade if possible. I only need UK & Western Europe but have no idea what the 'standard' map that is installed has in it - the whole universe??
Also Is there a remote control unit available? All sorts of other questions if anyone has the time?
Thanks in anticipation.
Simon

re remotes, you can get an infra red wireless remote, or, depending on your car brand, an adapter for a wired remote if you f.i. have buttons on your steering wheel. ( http://www.pioneer.e...1/overview.html )
Maps for the HD3 (or newer HD3-II, which is basically a software updated HD3) cover all of Europe.

In case you don't have the manual, you can find that here:
http://www.pioneer.e...D3BT/media.html

and for the HD3-II:

Thanks JWQ for taking the time. Can you tell me how I can find out which version of maps I currently have? I don't want to buy an upgrade if I don't need to.
Re remotes, I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 2008 which does have the steering wheel controls and they do work but I wondered if there was an IR remote that I could buy for people in the back seat?

If you look here under "remote controls" :
http://www.pioneer.e...1/overview.html

you can see that f.i. the CD-RV1 should work ( http://www.pioneer.e...-RV1/specs.html )

If you have a HD3, you're at least one map update behind, because the latest map update also transforms your HD3 into a HD3-II

I don't exactly know what the current version is, but you can at least see the version number under "settings", "hardware" (see manual page 83)

Last software update (which also transforms the HD3 into HD3-II ) was in 2010. There have been no further map updates since then, however, according to rumours there should be a new update out around September, so if you want to update you would be wise to wait till then......

You can usually find a new harddisk with updated software on ebay 8)
see for example http://www.ebay.co.u...=item35be6c97a0

I think it also displays the version (date) on startup of the system...

Thanks jwq for your informative help. I've just ordered the HD3-II upgrade using the link you provided.
