STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO MAKING CUSTOM BACKGROUNDS

Recommended Posts

NOTE: THIS IS FOR THE D1 AND D2 ONLY!

1. Download "Jerry's PIMMGR" or PIM Viewer.
2. Make the image you want using a image editor of some kind and using PIMMGR and save it as a .PIM. NOTE: JPEG -> PIM has some problems, I reccomend using common colors the D1 allready knows (Blue, Black, White, etc).

3. Take the NAV DVD you use and stick it in your computer.

4. Download "DVD Decrypter"

5. Open DVD Decrypter, click mode, ISO, then read.
Then click the big button at the bottom.

6. Once the iso making is done, open the image with a ISO Editor, such as UltraISO. (or for you mac users, use OSX tongue.gif )

*SKIP THIS STEP IF USING A Dual Layer DVD*
7a. Navigate to /IDX/
7b. Delete:

POIDT004.IDX, POIDT043.IDX, POISR201.IDX through POISR207.IDX

*RESUME STEPS*

8. Navigate to /BG/PIM2DIN/

9. Add the custom .PIM file you created.

10. Save the ISO

11. Burn the ISO with Nero (or equivilant)

12. Insert Burned DVD into D1.

13. Select your custom wallpaper file. The D1 will load it.

13a. DUAL LAYER ONLY: YOU'RE DONE!

REGULAR DVD:

13b. Eject the DVD and put the stock one back in.

14. YOUR DONE!

You guys are awesome! Have to give a big thanks to you guys and these threads. I installed my AVIC-D2 this weekend in my 05 Mustang GT. It came out beautiful but being the geek I am, I refused to rest until I had a custom background. So after reading some of the posts, messing with Photoshop and tweaking the steps a little here and there I got it to work. :D

The results:
you dont have any issues with the pim being transparent or anything?
Yea... a small portion of the PIM goes transparent to the rearview cam on occasion if you switch from the partial rearview cam mode to AV. But if you revert to the fullscreen map and then return to AV its perfect. Not a big deal to me.

Here's another pic...

Guest nyzgreatst
i figured out how to create the image and everything.

1. my original image did not have POISR201.IDX through POISR207.IDX. what it has are the files POISR101.IDX through POISR107.IDX. Are those the files to be deleted?

2. The new image file is 6GB and is too big to be burned onto a single DVD+R via nero. I have never burned a image file before so could anybody help me with that?

BTW, GREAT SITE. THANKS FOR THE HELP!!

That's why you need to burn onto dual layer and not single layer DVD R.

If you want to just burn a single layer disc for uploading images, you can delete every POI* file in that same directory, and it should become small enough to fit on a single layer RW disc. I did this with the 60MT software for my N2 and had no problems, even though the POI* files were different from the ones listed in the original how-to.
