MichaelJames99
Today, I used the output for a 2nd screen mounted in the backseat. It was a 7" LCD screen from Directed Electronics. Did not say what the resolution was but looked very crappy. What 7" screens are out there that are good? Is there a problem with a low signal output or poor quality output from the Z1 to the backseat screens?? I am making a custom mount so I just want a 7" stand alone screen. Don't want the headrest or drop down type screens
cntrylvr79
Were you watching a movie or the nav screen? From what I remember reading the resolution of the nav screen is weird and shows up crappy on external monitors. As far as a dvd goes I've never had a problem with crappy image on a directed screen from the z1.
MichaelJames99
DVD is fine, its the menu display that looks like crap.. do you think amplifiying the signal would help?
cntrylvr79
I doubt it. A video amp is meant more for increase the video clarity wen you have several monitors or a very long run between the source and the monitor.
radiogeek
It's just an non-compatible resolution. My cousin has a $500 screen in his truck, and the menus and nav screen look like crap too. I don't think there's much you can do about it unless you want to get into installing video scalers and spending buckets of money.
MichaelJames99
Would a different monitor that supported the resolution of the output of the Z1 work? Maybe the screen is being fed an incompatible resolution?
action
I'm gonna have to try this soon but, it seem that if you are trying to duplicate a decent resolution like the avic's through a composite output (standard TV's are 320 lines of resoultion), you're not going to get a good picture, especially for graphics. I would think that video should be decent as it was designed for standard (no HD) TVs. Try putting your PCs output onto a TV on anything but the lowest resoultion. It looks like crap and text is almost impossible to read unless you super-size it.
MichaelJames99
So why in the hell, would you offer the MIRROR mode on the Z1? Mirror mode duplicates what you see on the head unit back to the headrest or standalone screens in the back seat. Has ANYONE TRIED THIS???????
MichaelJames99
I want to make sure of this..the Output for video going to the rear seats is the composite video Out..there is no other way of hooking this up?
cntrylvr79
nope that's it composite video only.
MichaelJames99
Is there any way to make composite video look better? A cheap scaler ?
cntrylvr79
A cheap scaler is a contradiction in terms. The cheapest I've seen a decent scaler go for is 1k. It's up to you if it's that important to you I'll dig out the link.
