slief
Long time lurker here. I got my iphone 5 when they were first released as was really worried after reading here as well as on Pioneer's website. I've been checking this thread daily to see if there was any good news which there appeared to be.. None the less, I own a Z120 in my truck and a Z110 in my car. They 110 Was updated to the Z120 via the factory SD card update. The Z120 in my truck has the original software. I just got my lightening to 30 pin adapter and tested my iPhone in my truck on the Z120 and I am pleased to report that it worked just fine. I was able to navigate my playlists through the head unit. I was able to change songs via my Pac adapted steering wheel controls as well. I don't use the iPhone for video so not having that feature doesn't matter to me. While I have not tried Pandora, I am sure that will work just fine as well. I will try my iPhone 5 wiith my Z110 later today when I get home and report back. I just thought I would post this so those of you who are concerned will rest well.
cranbers
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Apple+Compatibility Pioneer updated their list to show what works with the adapter. What doesn't work is video, and app radio features and app mode video. But Pandora, steering wheel controls, audio and album art all work. So if that's the case I can live with that. Netflix on the head unit was neat but I guess thats history granted I never used it.
slief
Just tested the 30 pin adapter with my Z110 running Z120 software and it worked just fine for iPod playback and control. My worries have been eliminated! Only thing I have not tested is Pandora and my Sirius XM App. Neither of them I use often so I am not terribly concerned althrough I do like the dedicated Pink Floyd channel on Sirius and Pandora... It was already mentioned that Pandora works fine so I am not worried but will test those later and post if there is a problem.
cranbers
I havea z 120bt updated to 2012 navteq and an iphone 5, I just got the lightning to 30 pin adapter and it works as before, album art, controls, charging all working. (of course no video, and I never tried it with app radio features, but I saw its not supported so prob wont work.) Its actually pretty nice with the new adapter/8 pin you just plug it in and its secure, small, simple and orientation doesn't matter. It does add a bit of length to the cable but it seems to be fine. And the adapter latches in so it doesn't pull apart. I always found it a bit annoying how you had to line up the 30 pin and orientation and push the tabs on the side to release. Also the inside of the 30 pin cable connector is easy to get lint or something stuck in it. The 8 pin is a real improvement. I think Apple actually did make a wise choice. Yeah the adapter was 30 dollars, But I guess it actually has to convert digital 8 pins to analog 30 pins. So its not like a mini usb to usb or something.
onevmo
I have been using my 30 pin adapter (block style) with my Z130 and the new Proclip Iphone 5 cradle. This is what I am getting from my 5 1. All audio from Pandora (which is working flawlessly). 2. All audio from my playlists 3. All audio alerts from my Escort Live app. 4. Charging of course 5.Only gripe I have is that everytime I plug the phone in while listening to another source, the Z goes into App mode. I also have my 3gs plugged into AV2 on video and get all my video playlists there.
John Dolan
I have the Z130 and a proclip. I upgraded to the iphone 5, gave my wife the 4s I had, and traded her iphone 4 for a 32 ipod touch 4th gen. I have it set to sync wirelessly (I have a Macbook, so wireless syncing actually works) This works great because my phone stays in my pocket and connnects bluetooth when I start it up, I have the phone in hotspot mode and the touch, which stays in the dock, connects to the phone. This way I have music, video, app controls, and Netflix. I push all content wirelessly so I don't have to touch the touch LOL.
HyPnOtIk
The adapter worked but it would not allow calls to come through while my iPhone 5 was plugged into the unit. I tested this multiple times and every time it was plugged into the head unit no ringing and not even my phone lighting up to tell me I had a call. Once I unplugged it from the unit my calls came through just fine. This is with leaving Bluetooth off and being on any other menu other than the "iPod" menu. I have a z110bt currently updated to z120bt software. Not sure if that has something to do with it. I was using the $40 lighting to 30 pin adapter (the one that has the short cable). I have decided to return it for now and j just use a USB to lighting cable for charging purposes for the time being.
Trjons
Is there something unique in the Apple cable adapters that makes this work while the knockoff adapters from eBay do not?
onevmo
Two things; 1. in response to HyPnOtlk, Don't know about z110 updated to z120 but I have been placing and receiving calls (even with Voice recognition) thru my z130 headunit with the block adapter plugged into my Iphone 5 no problem. 2, In response to Trjons, Yes there is a microchip in the Apple adapters. Zrullac
I have been a Pioneer owner since 1978. I have always trusted their products and have thought that they are unrivaled in auto stereo. Lately though I have come to the conclusion that Pioneer obviously is only concerned with releasing the newest products without giving a thought to supporting the previous sold line of products. I will not upgrade to the latest AVIC product again. I have owned 3 generations of the AVIC and am tired of Pioneer's answers as to getting support to compatiblilty issues with my peripherals. They charge too much money for each upgrade.
dong
Just found some info on Pioneer's site. IMHO probably not worth it for a system that didn't work all that well to begin with.
