Laser Jammers

Recommended Posts

I've heard a case where an senior citizen got a $100+ ticket for impeding traffic - Only thing is, he was driving the speed limit! The flow of traffic was much higher I guess, and the cop felt like he was slowing people down!!! This was in the paper here a few years ago. I'm sure the Ontario Crown Attorney's office probably didn't even bother fighting that one.. heh, you thought a ticket for 1mph over is crazy..

I was at a career fair hosted by my university today, and there were over 250 different employers there scouting and recruiting talent from our school and our sister schools (one of which has a really good Police foundations program), including the Local PD, PD's from all across the province, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I was tempted to ask stupid questions about giving tickets, but I figured: They have guns/tasers. I'm a university student. I'll just be on my way. Stupid cops.

Slyk,

It sounds like the policy where you are actually makes sense.

When I got my ticket, the only reason I was going a little faster than the limit was I was trying to get around a semi truck so I could exit off the interstate. I saw the cop, so there's no way I would have been speeding excessively. I never dreamed he'd give me a ticket for 3 over. That jackass cost me $187.50.

In my state, they set it up to make it near impossible to fight. If you go to court and lose, they charge another 100 bucks of clerical costs, and they only report 10 MPH or higher over the limit as a moving violation, so most people just pay the ticket since the insurance company never finds out.

I have fought tickets and won before. I used to always do that, but now I just can't afford the time it takes. It really burns me to pay them too.

I am really sorry to hear that, radiogeek... That is probably the most unfair system... Speeding tickets in general are a pretty big cash grab, and most traffic courts are extremely unevenly biased, but where you are sounds like a pretty hellish place to drive. It would make me personally get a little bit paranoid (moreso than I already do here) every time I see a cop on the streets. By the sounds of it, it might ACTUALLY be cheaper for you to get a good laser jammer, and a Valentine 1 radar detector or something of the like, so at least you can get a chance to slow down from 58 to like 45 where you know you won't get in trouble.

A few years ago I got 2 tickets for speeding in my hometown with a Toyota Supra. The first one was a 60 in a 30 caught with radar, and then I bought a Passport 8500 x50 which saved me numerous times until a month after the first ticket I got caught with laser doing 56 in a 30. I challenged both tickets because I have more time than money and both tickets were addressed at the same time when the asst prosecutor looked at the tickets for 2 minutes and reduced $400 in fines to $100 with only one conviction which hardly even affected my insurance rates.

Yeah in some cases, the prosecutor will do this, other times, if you're looking for a reduction, you can approach them and explain to them that you would like to make their day shorter and easier, and that you will accept a guilty plea to a lesser fine/points and if they're reasonable (and if your request is reasonable to them), they'll usually do it, so that they can go home earlier with some convictions. They still get a conviction and they have to put less work into it, and its less risky than taking it to trial fully, where they have to work more and there is a risk of them losing altogether. Usually if you're accepting a plea bargain you can go first too because they'll wanna get all the guilty pleas out of the way first, and that way you'll get to go home much earlier. I was in and out in 15 minutes once this way. About 5 mins talking with the Crown Prosecutor, 6 or 7 minutes waiting, and about 3 minutes pleading guilty lol.

I got pulled over yesterday.. Cop turned out to be an old buddy of mine, we had a chat... Some kid died on Monday racing on a huge, allegedly popular street (the limit is too low on that street but everyone treats it like a freeway anyway)... I also found out from him that one of our friends caught some air on a hilly road and lost control of the car, hit an embankment, flipped the car end over end and then it rolled in a field a few times before coming to a rest. The 2 kids inside were lucky to be alive. One was in a coma until a couple days ago and has some issues, the other (our friend) is still in critical condition.

A lot of accidents are caused by the speed and inexperience combo... but even if you're experienced, speeding obviously adds to the injury and damage that can occur, even if you're not at fault. I am not against the police or speeding/safety enforcement, I just tend to think they can go about it better..

Hey two-cold.. another friend of mine wrecked his Camry and said that the airbags didn't hurt any of his occupants at all.. There was no force when they came out, they just came out VERY quickly and then became nice and comfortably soft to cushion their impact.. They didn't even feel the airbags come out when they wrapped around a pole. So I'm not sure, but maybe your system won't knock out a theif? Just a thought... its sure as hell going to surprise them, and they'll probably lose control... but yeah I'm just wondering about that still

Laser Jammers:

You have to mount devices to the four corners of you car, or around license plates. First off, this is tacky and a major effort. Not to mention it needs a control computer under the hood and dash, and lastly a display unit for inside the vehicle. There is no true all in one piec laser Jammer. They are bullshit. Think about the fact that you have block the laser with pinpoint accuracy. One single box is not going to do this. The laser can point anywhere. Usually the front are rear bumper, or more specifically the reflective license plate.

Second, the cop is just looking for a reflective surface to reflect the laser. If he doesn't aim in the vacinity that the four jammers are mounted, they are useless. The Jammers aren't going to protect the entire perimeter of your car. The most common places are the passenger and driver side of the front and rear bumbers. This will pretty much cover your front and rear.

The cop can still ping the side of your car, or any other surface. So its' a risk to install these, may or may not be worh while, and they are not entirely accurate. As it was mentioned before, they just temporarily scramble the signal, the PIG will eventually get a lock on you.

The idea is to give you a little more time to slow down.

The point was also made that laser detectors are useless. This is true. By the time your sytem detects laser, it is too late (imagine the speed and focus of light). Before laser, the bands were so wide and unprecise, you could detect them several seconds before they were exact enough to pick you up. Laser is too fast and accurate for this.

If you want good accurate reseach on this topic, google "Radar Roy". He is an ex pIG who tests these sytstems for a living and reports. There are several good testimonials and reviews there.

Hello there everybody....i know how you feel about getting tickets. I got pulled over more than once for speeding. I was lucking to get away with 6 warning and one ticket on my record and another one that I am hoping not to go into my record until june when i finish my program.

I had a friend who uses laser Jammers. Polive WILL know that you are blocking their signal when you forget to turn it off before you pass a police car. They can fine you and even impound ur car.

The best way to use them is if you were driving within 15 miles/hr over the speed limit, as soon as you hear the alert for the radar signal, promptly reduce the speed and turn it off. If in the city, turn it off immediatly after reducing the speed. That way the police officer wont recognize that you were blocking his signal. In the installation process, it is better to have it hidden somewhere beneath the dashboard, so that its unnoticible.

If you want to get accurate speed reading, try using the new Escort radar detector with the GPS locator. You can save all the spots where you know police will be hidding.

Usually if you were going above the speed limit with the flow you wont get pulled over, but dont go too fast and give the officer a reason to pull you over.

I hope i didnt talk too long. Drive safe everybody.
