random1
it is possible, but not trivial. Same issue as i discussed here: #30 Crap, I'm stupid and impatient, so I went ahead and tried, and now I'm stuck. Have to kick it out of upgrade mode and do it properly. random1
Alright, got it back to a working Z140, used the debug mode to copy the edited navi file, and yet I don't see the extra icon. Unit still working normally... That's odd.
pionara
did you copy it to the right PRG folder? Did you edit the right navi version with the right edit for that version?
random1
did you copy it to the right PRG folder? Did you edit the right navi version with the right edit for that version? Again, I'm being a bit silly and careless, but I'm also a bit out of my depth. Thanks for your patience and help. It didn't copy over because I didn't exit the navi. I didn't get an error message so I thought it was done properly. So... how do I launce explorer in the backgound? Apl Exit just gets me to a blank screen, and I have to restart. Just going in to File Explorer doesn't let me overwrite the (active) navi.exe file.
pionara
from debug menu: 1. launch windows explorer (this will launch explorer in the background and return back to navi menu 2. go back into debug menu, and "test apl exit". This will quit the navi application and leave you at windows explorer desktop. Now you can replace files without being locked/in-use. When done reboot. (while you are at it, you might want to get a folder of utils for wince for your sd card - you can even put a utils folder on NDATA (NAND2) because you have extra space there). Total commander is good file explorer/manager replacement There is a soft reboot util available too (restart.exe).
random1
I'm missing something. Is the debug menu the same as the maintenance menu/screen? I don't see windows explorer on that screen, just file manager.
pionara
sorry i was talking about the application debug windows inside the app. Are you in testmode "file maintenance" (you are if you inserted an SD with TESTMODE.KEY on it? - have you watched the avic testmode video on youtube? The file manager interface on it is a little bit strange and takes some practice to use.
random1
No, I thought the idea was that you can do it using the "hidden debug menus" without going into testmode.
pionara
yes you can. I tell you what. Why dont you list out the exact steps you are taking, and what is going wrong.

OK, So the unit is a Z120 that has been upgraded to the the 130 and now 140. I went into the level 3 debug mode (POSEIDONDBG ON), and I am able to go into the maintenance window by pressing the top of the screen within the navigation menu. I go into "file manager", and copied the navi.exe from the PRG0 folder onto an SD card. I edited that file to do both the software bypass and the splash screen bypass. Now, I cannot replace the navi.exe file that is in use when I go back to the unit. When I choose "Apl Exit", it just goes to a blank screen because I haven't launched explorer(because I don't know how to). So that's where I am - unit working fine, but not bypassed. Hoping to avoid going the testmode route, because, obviously, I'm not that tech-savvy. Thanks again
pionara
ok, my mistake, it seems that maybe these units dont have windows explorer on them. The u310/f310 does which is where I tested this. Ok, so then you will need to use original testmode (with testmode.key) to replace this. Cannot do from filemanager while navi.exe is running. There might be another way, but for now it would be testmode.

Success! Thanks pionara and condi! I didn't have the PRG flag, so I copied PRG0 to PRG1, edited the navi.exe in PRG1, put PRG.FLG on the Avic, and I now boot out of PRG1, with the software bypass and the splash screen hack. I thought this would be the "safest" way to do this, as I could pretty easily go back to my untouched PRG0 if something went wrong. Having an "uncrippled" Avic is so nice. I'm not going to start watching movies while I drive, but I'm pretty happy to be able to use the navigation properly.
