Ok, So early this evening, Pioneer Electronics announced the long anticipated update was here! Ready for download, instructions and all. Allowing full use of the iPhone 5, with this update and a 120 dollar cable.

Luckily, I have the iPhone 4S, right?

No.

I completed the two stage update, looking forward to hopefully some bug fixes. I plug my phone is and, nothing. the phone made its chime to say it was loading. But no beep or reaction from the AppRadio.

So I unplug it, and try the bluetooth. After a few unsuccessful tries, it finally worked. So I have one connection. But as i was trying the phone functionality, I found that when i click on my contact list, or last/missed calls. The lists show up for two seconds, and then disappear.

I try the phone connection again, phone chimes for charging, and nothing from the radio. In the settings menu there is a new option. AppRadio connections. When you click here, it opens a page telling you to disconnect your device, turn its bluetooth off. and then to download their new app! CarMediaPlayer.

I did this, and tried again. No luck. No connectivity. The bluetooth connection takes a long time to connect now.

Why oh why did I update so soon. Pioneer really must have their heads waaay up their asses. If they don't fix this very quickly, i am stuck with an AM/FM radio.

DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE LIGHTNING DIGITAL AV ADAPTER FOR THE IPHONE 5.

Just updated to the latest firmware and I also recently upgraded my iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5. I had the iPhone 4 plugged in with the radio's 30 pin connector for music and video until my av adapter came in the mail. Some results below:

iPhone 4 with new update FW v8.30 and AppRadio 30pin connector

iPod music - no

iPod video - no

AppRadio Apps - no

Pandora - no

Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and lightning to usb cable plugged into AppRadio usb

iPod music - no

iPod video - no

AppRadio Apps - no

Pandora - no

Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and 30 pin to lightning adapter cable plugged into AppRadio 30 pin

(same results if using 30 pin to lightning on 30 pin cable to AppRadio usb)

iPod music - no

iPod video - no

AppRadio Apps - no

Pandora - no

Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and lightning digital av adapter with standard HDMI cable

iPod music - yes (iPod icon is unusable but music plays when selected from iPhone)

iPod video - yes

AppRadio Apps - yes

Pandora - yes

Charging - yes (with lightning to usb cable plugged into AppRadio usb)

iPhone to AppRadio screen mirroring - yes

My iPhone 5 is on FW 6.0.1, jailbroken with evasi0n with AT&T

I don't understand why Pioneer is charging $60 for an HDMI cable that they call the IH-202. I bought a cheap HDMI cable off ebay for $2 and it works fine. The HDMI port on the back of the stereo doesn't have much room for HDMI cables that may have a larger plastic end.

First, about the special pioneer cable, I believe it allows you to have access to a "front facing" USB port for easy of use for future firmware updates.

Second, I learned from last update that the update file and USB thumb drive can be very finicky. I tried several USB drives as did my local Best Buy.  We finally got one to work.  But it took several iterations to get to that point.  ALong the way I got errors saying there was more than 1 file in the root location, as well as cant ready USB.

So just try a few or if you have a local auto shop, see if the have had success.  :)

I can vouch for that. A lot of the "modern" flash drives have issues because they're not strictly a USB Mass Storage Device. A lot of flash drives have U3, or other features that interfere with units like the AVIC.

The most basic the flash drive the better. Most of the older 2GB and smaller ones should work without a problem.

I don't know about the flash drive business but it says it pretty clearly on their site that If you do not have an iPhone 5 to avoid this update. It has no bug fixes, it removes the ability to use the built in iPod app, and defaults the machine to use the port on the back for power only.

If you have an iPhone 5 this is the upgrade you have been waiting for. It you do not, DO NOT UPGRADE!

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadio/AppRadio+2+(SPH-DA100) look at the last line. "No need to install this update if you do not have an iPhone 5 or fifth generation iPod touch."

Thanks.

I'm currently using appradio 1 with an ipod touch. I don't mind the radio and I'm thinking of upgrading to the appradio 2. I have all the apple connectors and hdmi ready to go. So as long as the touch screen functions work ok. i think I might buy appradio 2. So do apps like waze and pandora all still work thru the touchscreen.?
