Mech5700
Trying to upload a custom background image via USB or SD and the HU won't even let me view the image. It is a 800x400 jpeg Chevy bowtie logo I downloaded from this forum, put into a folder named "Pictures", and plugged in the USB. When I hit the "media" button while in the USB source and select images, it says "Unplayable file". Any ideas?
Mech5700
I loaded a random pic to the USB and it was fine... but the background images downloaded from this site wont work?! I think it is a size issue, I googled some potential background images, picked a 1600x1000 sized one and it worked...
secureguru
Having the exact same issue. It will enumerate the USB drive or SD card showing a number of files but then gives the same unplayable message. I've tried a number of resolutions and both USB vs SD all with the same result. Flyers28
Receiving the very same thing with different image sizes. Any Solutions?
Flyers28
Got mine to work. Image size is 720x405. When you save the image as a jpeg save the size as medium quality. (I did this in Photoshop). This makes the file size smaller and for some reason allows the unit to read the file.
Joe Schmoe
Bumping this rather than my own thread - didn't realize there was a backgrounds forum. Finally got somewhere with this. The correct ratio seems to be 1200X720 (no, not 1280 for some reason) or some multiple of that. This results in no changes when you use the trim function to correct photos with the wrong ratio. Next, unless I'm mistaken Pioneer has tied file size restrictions to photo resolution. God knows why. So, 1200X720 with a file size smaller than 100K works. Any more than 100K at that same resolution and it wont. Then, 2400X1440 with a file size smaller than 200K works. Well...I was about 20-30K on each side of the likely 200K threshold and less than worked, greater than didn't. I didn't have time to nail it down bit by bit to confirm 100% that 200K is the limit here. I also have a feeling that while saving in PS, format options might impact the unit's ability to read the file. I'm not gonna test that since I got "baseline" to work with me. Someone else can test if they want. One tip if using PS is that when you go to crop your photo, while cropping, under Aspect Ratio change it to 12 inches wide by 7.2 inches tall. This will give you the proper aspect ratio when cropping the candidate photo. Lastly, I suspect some very tall or very wide aspect ratios aren't excepted.
sonarman
Hi all, I've spent months trying to get an image to display correctly on my x8500 and I finally got it working! It had nothing to do with the size in pixels or the size in bytes...believe it or not it came down to something called "Pixel Sampling". I looked on page 70 of the manual which gives the specs for JPEG images. The Pixel Sampling has to be 4:2:2 or 4:2:0. The images I was trying to use were all set to a Pixel Sampling of 4:4:4. Once I resampled the images to 4:2:2 using the Mac Gimp software they all displayed! By the way, the photo I used is attached and here are the properties: 687KB 1200 x
