Copying D2 navi disc on Double layer dvd+R

After reading about it on here I tried to make a copy of the updated maps for my D1 using the D2 navi disc. The problem I am having is when there is couple of mins left of finishing around (92%-95%done) it tells me there is a problem to insert another disc. I used two different types of computers to do this. Do I need to use DVD-R to make this work or do I need to use another burning program for ex: Nerio(sp?). Any feedback will be much appericated.
