Z150BH in an F150, won't power on

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I just tried installing the HU with a Scosche harness and an ASWC-1. Matched all colors, plugged it in, and nothing- the unit doesn't even power on. I tried taking out the steering wheel control to see if that made a difference, still nothing. Any ideas on why it won't power on?

It's likely that the 12v switched wire on the Scosche harness isn't actually connected to the car.  Check the pin where each of the wires on the Scosche plug match up with the car's plug, and see if there is a wire supplying switched 12v power.  If not, then you will need to tap into something else in the dash such as a cigarette lighter wire.

This was the case on my Mercedes -- no switched 12v on the car's radio harness -- so I had to tap into the cig lighter for it.

Hey, finally got around to fixing it. And yes, the 12V switched wire was the culprit. I switched out the scosche harness for a metra one to add switched power and the steering wheel control harness and it works fine. I want to add a backup camera now, but I'm not sure of the wiring, tell me if I have this correct. I'm using an OEM tailgate logo camera that has power, ground, video, and something labeled reverse anode output. Ground goes to ground, video is plugged into the H/U, the reverse wire goes to the reverse wire in the H/U harness, and power goes to either constant 12V or switched 12V?
