another day/night map question..

Recommended Posts

Hi,  im new here in the forum and a new owner of the z150bh, or f50bt as its called here in europe.

I have read the forum over and over and i see there are issues with the day/night mode in the maps, but i cant find a similar thread to my problem.

I can only get nightmode in the maps by shutting off the lights completly. The HU is installed proffesionaly but this cant be right. In my country we always drive with lights on, day and night.

If i switch on the carlights automaticly or manually, the AVIC have the daylight map on regardless if the menu is selected to automaticly. The only way i get nightmap is by shutting off the lights. Of course i cant drive at night without lights...

I tried to unplug the orange/white cable but still i only get daylight map.

I asked a dealer here about the problem, he responded maybe theres a timer built into the AVIC and after a certain hour it will automaticly go to nightmode. Can someone verify this?

Also, are there other cables than the orange/white that could be the reason for this opposite behavior of the day/night map.

Finally, would it be too much trouble for Pioneer to include a night menu, independent of the light switch in the car?

Im driving a peugeot 3008

On my z130bt the map turns to night mode when the orange wire receives a voltage.   When the wire has no voltage the map stays in day mode.  There's no time delay when it switches between day and night mode.

My mercedes has a green glow ring around the cigarette lighter that turns on whenever it gets dark outside.  I don't know what turns it on, but the wire leading to that light gets 12v when it's dark outside.  So I tapped this wire to the orange, and all works well :)

It's odd that your radio does the opposite.  I would be surprised if the z150 was different from the z130.  Somehow your radio has been installed with a signal wire that carries voltage only when the headlights are off.    Maybe it's some sort of a dimmer wire for the dash display on your car that just happens to behave the opposite.  I would suggest looking for something else you can tap into, that lights up only when it's dark.

hi, johnk, thanks for the answer.

im not sure i want to try messing around with the wires myself, i was hopeing it could be solved more easily. i already tried to unwire the orange/white and then only use the automatic/daytime menu to swich day/night map, but that didnt work also. I also have problems to get the SWC to work, i dont know why because this worked fine with the clarion nx502 i had previously installed.

Im searching this forum and i cant find any info, but since lots of people are hacking the unit, wouldnt it be possible to find a way to choose day/night manually? or at least change the color on the map to something darker?

I tried the same thing when I first installed the radio and didn't have the illumination wire connected yet. I think this is used to force the radio to stay in day mode even when it's dark outside. An odd behavior but I think this is the way it was designed.

Not that it will help at all, but it installed the metro ASWC and used the manual programming mode to program the buttons on my steering wheel. It's to bad pioneer doesn't have a SWC built into their head unit. All these extra boxes!

The easiest way would be to install a manual switch on or under the dash somewhere yourself. Some people have done this for the 12v switched wire .. No reason why it wouldn't work for the illumination wire as well. It carries virtually no current so any tiny switch should work. Does your dash have any control panel blanks that you could drill a small hole in for a SPST switch, or purchase a matching switch from the dealership to plug in there?

to follow up this...

I have replaced the  canbus to a newer model and now i have the revers sensors + the ventilation system on the display. However, i ALSO got able to control the day/night mapview, with the system settings Automatic/Daytime. On the downside it seems that the SWC got crippled, now its very slow and many keys dont work. Looking into that now..

Hello,

Did you fix your issue?

I have a peugeot 308 and in my case, I get:

- lights off: night mode

- lights on: day mode

- auto : night mode under light & day mode in the darkness (which is the opposite it should work)

Regards.

It seems to me that your Illumination wire is connected to the wrong source. Go to Settings/Navi Settings/Connection Status. The value of "Illumination" should be "Off" during daytime and "On" at night. Normally "day" is defined as running lights off, and "night" as running lights on. This is all controlled by the orange/white wire. If it has 0 volts, the head unit thinks it is daytime. Otherwise it is night.

Most people tap this wire to a running light power wire. However if your car has DRL, this gets more complicated.

BTW, there are two independent functions that can be triggered by the illumination  mode:

  • the display brightness is less at night (there are configurable video settings for each video source for both day and night.
  • optionally, the maps change to (sort of) inverse video at night. This is controlled by Settings/Map Settings/Day-Night Display. When set to "Automatic" the map colors switch to night when the illumination wire has voltage.  When set to "Day" the map always uses the daytime color settings regardless of the illumination wire voltage.

So verify that the Illumination mode is correct for Lights On and Off. If the value is wrong, then the problem is with your wiring. There's noting you can change in the head unit to correct this.

I recently changed how my unit operated. My orange/white with was connected to my tail-light power. Instead, I connected it to a Photosensor board. So it is now triggered by the ambient light in the car, rather than the state of my running lights. The circuit board is hidden under the dash.  I mounted the photo-resistor sensor in a small gap between my dash and the roof pillar. It is shaded from stray ambient light like oncoming headlights or street lights. The sensitivity is adjustable. I set it to turn on only when it is very dark.

So now, if I'm driving with lights on during the day (like in the rain or fog), I still can see the headunit display clearly.
