Not at launch. Even though CarPlay pretty much is MirrorLink/AppRadio in nature, Apple is being very conservative about what devs can do right now. The only thing supported for 3rd parties (and only with permission) are audio apps. There isn't anything available for apps like Waze/Garmin/etc to do what they need to do. Apple will likely expand what is supported, but the question is how far and how soon. Maybe iOS 8 will do more, who knows.

Thats for iOS 7. For iOS 8 there are hints that it will support CarPlay wirelessly.

It says the system takes a "lightning equipped iPhone" it does not say it takes only a lightning cable. I can almost assure you it will require the same adapters it currently takes to support app mode and video.
