Thoughts on Avic 8000 NEX iPhone connection options

Recommended Posts

So, I just got my 8000 in the mail. Don't have it in the car yet cause the car's in the shop but I set it up on the bench to mess around with some of the features.

1. I bought an IH-202 cable, only to discover that I don't need one. Not sure why Pioneer's site says you need one when there isn't even a connection for it on the back of the receiver.

2. The connection scheme for iOS devices is absurd.

I have the Apple Lightning to HDMI connector connected properly, etc. When the smartphone setup is set to "Digital AV Adapter", I can play audio over HDMI, but obviously cannot control my phone from the receiver. App radio mode works fine. For some reason, however, you can't use the USB port to play audio in this configuration! So I switch the connection type to USB. Still can't use USB as the source if I'm connected to the Apple adapter, so I have to disconnect that too. Can't display DashCommand either, but I knew that would happen. USB audio works as expected.

And then the absurd thing is that you can't stream audio over bluetooth if you have the device connected to the receiver with any cables!!!!! So basically I'm limited to one connection method at a time. I should be able to stream music wirelessly and plug my phone in to charge without having to switch sources.

There's no reason why you should have to remove the Lightning to HDMI adapter to stream audio over USB, either. just because I want to use a digital AV adapter doesn't mean that I want to run audio over the HDMI cable.

I guess I'll just leave the adapter connected to HDMI in the center console, and use that only when I want to run dashcommand (feel like I've wasted quite a bit of money on a wireless interface and the app to not be able to use it while playing music).

I don't think I actually have a question...just wanted to share my thoughts. Any comments?
