Gent er8
I have searched, but haven't seen what info I'm looking for. I do tend to be blind sometimes, so don't flame me. I just swapped out an alpine 928hd for the 8000nex. While I've only had it installed for 24 hours, I am not able to get my iPhone 5s to be able to use ipod mode. I have the hdmi adapter. Hdmi and usb1 are being used as I read in the manual. It was very late last nigh, and I had a lot to unwire and then install the new unit. Bluetooth works well, but I can't get it to recognize the phone for ipod functions when wired. I have tried only the lightning cable alone, as well as the adapter. Am I missing something, or am I using the wrong USB port? Tia!
Gent er8
I think I answered my own question a few minutes ago while tinkering. Am I to understand, that it need to only have the usb wire connected rather than the hdmi adapter, and also switch input modes in settings? Is there no easier way? Gent er8
The alpine unit got a few basic things right then. I was able to be connected to my phone using the USB, and I could get could still get radar alerts via Bluetooth. It was nice because if I had the music up, it would broadcast the alert over the speakers so I could hear it. It appears this isn't possible with the NEX. Overall, I like the new unit better, but I'm still learning it.
drenyce311
you mean your text message alerts or notifications?? I can hear my text messages ring through the car speakers. or any notification
Gent er8
Escort live will announce about speed cameras or radar band. It would mute the USB music and come through the speakers. My radar detector has Bluetooth, so it will sync with the smartphone app. When my music is too loud to hear the actual detector, I would get a warning through the speakers. So the alpine could do USB and Bluetooth at the same time.

Gent er8
The pioneer is working beautifully with the escort live app. I think it does both across the usb, and doesn't use bluetooth as I originally thought. Either way, I'm just glad it works.
tekki
I downloaded the app yesterday, gonna fool around with it myself
Kstryker
Don't you have an actual Escort device for the app to interface with or can anyone download the app and it announce speed cams etc...
Gent er8
You can download the app for free, and it will have some functionality. You don't need a radar detector. It is a pay service, but I like the benefits of it. Like I said, it will have some use in "free" mode. It allows users to upload police locations,so I will get alerts of live police well before radar range. It gives me time to slow down. If used with a detector, it will automatically upload radar detections to the network, allowing a user behind you to have extra warning time. For those in the market, check out the escort passport max radar detector. It is a phenomenal unit that will lock out false alarms after you pass by the same one 3 time. GPS in the radar detector gives heads up for red light and speed cams. Anybody interested, escort offers interest free financing. It was nice when I was tight on cash at the time. Are you using Escort Live through AppRadio Mode similar to what this guy did on a AppRadio2: If so, does it have to go thru the HDMI connection or will it work thru just the lightning USB cable? If you are going through HDMI, how do you listen to the music on your iPhone?
