Kind of curious how AppRadio mode would work without an hdmi adapter on the iPhone. The hdmi provides the video through to the head unit and I don't know which apps you could take advantage of without video. I'm thinking (and this is just a theory as I haven't researched it) that you WOULD need a special pioneer cable. A buddy of mine has a 4S and he bought the cable that has USB and the yellow pioneer plug on one end and 30pin on the other. They also sell a cable like this with lightning instead of 30pin I believe and I would think you would have to use that to get the AppRadio mode working. I have the AppRadio app and when I set the unit to USB and plug in lightning to USB1 on the radio, I do not have access to AppRadio mode.

I just had a 5000 nex installed on Sunday. I'm unable to get appradio to work with my iphine 5. When the phone is connected. The main screen shows a blue App icon with a white x in the upper left. Touch screen does nothing there. Navi and other functions work. The unit came with a USB extension cable but it was too short to get to where I wanted it (I have a 2002 Toyota avalon). I used a black 10 foot belkin USB to lightning cable to get the necessary reach into my center console/armrest cubby. I also had another cable run from the second USB out to the center console using a micro USB cable, as my phone has a battery case that uses a micro USB connector. It's apple certified and I can do a wire sync to my mac with that case on the phone.

Bluetooth works. Connecting to either USB cable (with/without the battery case on) works. Music plays. It pulls album artwork. The phone functions are there when the bluetooth connection is on. (Not when on either cable, with bluetooth off - I don't know if that's normal). I went through the setup screen and set up the phone per documentation.

I have the appradio app installed on my phone, along with car browser app and and car media player app (which I found through the app radio app)

When I press the apps button, there are no apps present. Is there something special about the CD-IU52 cable mentioned in the installation manual that you need the mothership cable or is this really just USB out the back of the unit?

Any insight is appreciated.

You need to set smartphone setup as digital av adapter also

You need the lightning to VGA adapter from apple and you also need the VGA cable from pioneer.

forI iPhone (CD-IV202AV) (sold separa

If you search the forum you will see the installation manual has been posted and it will show you what ya need.

I have an iPhone 5 with a 7000NEX, I went through all this hoopla to get the app mode to work and honestly it sucks, if I were to do it all again I wouldn't ever bother,  I just use a lighting cable and I am very happy.  The other consideration is that car play is coming at some point and we do not know how that is going to connect.  I really wouldn't bother with app mode at this point IMHO

I find two similar items. Almost identical product numbers and descriptions

Pioneer CDIV202NAVI AppRadio Mode VGA Interface Cable Kit for iPhone 5

Pioneer CDIV202AV AppRadio Mode VGA Interface Cable Kit for iPhone 5

Are these in fact the same thing?

In looking at the cables there is no such connector on the back of the unit for the CDIV202navi "square connector"

That angle square plug is not used for nex units per my conversation with pioneer.

In the installation manual it shows CDIV202av

Under accessories on web site it shows the same

I'm trying to get AppMode working with my iPad3 using a 30-pin digital av connector using hdmi / USB port 1 and it either:

  1. Doesn't do anything.
  2. Sometimes the app connects, but the radio doesn't.
  3. Sometimes the Radio connects but the app doesn't.

Any suggestions? Is this just not meant to work?

T.I.A.

P.S. HDMI does mirror the iPad when in HDMI mode really well. Guess who's SlingBoxing to the NEX????
