The adapter has male lightning connector to go into iPhone, (male 30 pin on the iPhone 4 4s) The adapter has 1 female hdmi and 1 female lightning slot The adapter separates the audio video and sends it to hdmi, the female lightning slot is only for charging, it does not read the iPhone. App Radio uses bluetooth to communicate with iPhone and iPhone sends audio/video via hdmi to head unit. FYI Quote Link to post Share on other sites
