"The upgrade will be available as a download from Pioneer’s website, which you can transfer to your NEX system using a USB key drive. When? Pioneer’s official line is early summer, but Cardenas called it a matter of “a few weeks†before the upgrade would be available."

Clicking the Mode button when in CarPlay mode, takes you to the NEX receivers home screen menu where all the above functions can be accessed. Click Mode again and you are brought back to the CarPlay screen. NO MORE POP-UPS OR WARNING MESSAGES!

Nice I like that

Today is is May 16th, the apple WWDC conference is June 15, which is a few weeks away. If you wanted a date I'd bet it is that. Based on what was said on macworld, it isn't Pioneer that is holding up carplay. It's Apple. In the demo you couldn't even use the 3rd party apps they showed off at CES so I guess they aren't ready yet, and Siri didn't do a perfect job, again, not ready yet.

I wish I could afford to upgrade my head unit, or get a new car with CarPlay, but I can't.

I'm mainly interested in being able to listen to music and podcasts from my iPhone in the car and I found an app that is a pretty good alternative.

The developer states on the App Store page that he designed it with in-car use in mind, so you can quickly start playing an album, and easily control playback without even having to look at the screen, unlike the standard music app which has small buttons that are hard to press accurately when your phone is mounted in a dock at arm's length. It gets regular updates, and one feature I particularly like is that I can listen to podcasts and music within the one app.

Oh, it's called Harken For iPhone. http://bit.ly/HarkenForiPhone

He's also got an iPad version.

Guys,

I think when getting my 8000NEX installed, I screwed myself over...I had them route a lightning cable (not the USB extention cord) to USB port 1, and apparently that's where I'm supposed to use a thumb drive?!

The manual says that firmware updates can also be done over an SD card.  Should I be fine using that?  Everywhere I've refered to advises of a USB thumb drive.  Why wouldn't I be able to use the SD card?  Do I  have to take my car back to the installer?!
