How to avoid power drop when switching from ACC to starting engine?

Recommended Posts

So, I'm sure I'm not the only one that is incredibly annoyed by this.  There I am in my car, I've just spent a good 3-4 minutes getting AppRadio mode working with music & navigation.  Great!  Ready to go!  -turns engine on- NNOOOOOOOO I HAVE TO START ALL OVER BECAUSE THE POWER TO THE HU CUT OUT!!  This may not be the case will all vehicles, but I know it is for most.  I have a 2002 Subaru WRX.  If anyone has a solution to this that would be great!

In the past (about 5-6 years ago) someone sold a capacitor that would supply about 10 seconds of power, but it was bulky and didnt work very well. Example, if you were pushing anything serious, such as the built in pre amp with loud music, at the time you were starting your engine the capacitor would still fall short. I tried to google for it before commenting, but I cant find it now. Let me know if you find it, I would consider a newer redesigned 2014 version if it was around.

Just leave your car on, problem solved. your really not wasting a ton of gas while in idle. Although you do have a WRX i suspect you want to get to wasting gas a quickly as possible (fun car to drive)!

Wire power and standby to battery directly or another constant power source. However you will need to power off the unit every time you leave the car.
