Incompatible USB when connecting iPhone 5?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I have a new AVIC 5000NEX, while I love my new investment I can't seem to get some things right. The message " Incompatible USB " appears when I connect my Iphone 5 to the USB 1 or USB 2 port. I also have the VGA (RGB) cable to get the AppRadio experience. I am able to get AppRadio and the supported apps but I get that message when I click on the USB icon on the screen. Any insights?

When you have the lightning cable going from the apple av adapter to the usb1, it is only charging the phone, the adapter separates audio/video from the phone. You can plug the lightning cable into a phone charger and plug in either usb thumb drive, or ssd into usb1 and it will read them. app radio does not need lightning to usb1 to operate, it uses bt and either hdmi, or rgb (if your head unit does not have hdmi). Now when carplay comes available, you will either use apple a/v adapter or lighting cable to usb1, not able to do both.

It would be nice if we could have the best of both worlds, that is having  a/v adapter hooked up and lightning cable ran to usb1 and either use app radio or carplay, but that is not possible.

Thanks for the quick reply!, do you know about playing NETFLIX and/or youtube through the 5000nex? I have read of other users being able to do so with other headunits, but I can't seem to get mine to show any video. All it does it show me an image of the video playing on my phone for a splitsecond and then it goes back to the AppRadio app on the headunit. I opened another topic for this but maybe you know something about it? Thanks in advance.

I know to play youtube, i had to use the EC Touch app in app radio, you have to pay in-app purchase to get youtube. This may change with carplay, although i am not sure what all apps are going to be carplay compatible. Now, i have not done this with netflix, but you can go into av mode and hit, in your case rgb as input and what is on your phone will show up on screen, problem is it did not fill up screen, that is, it mirrored the phone size for size.

In my head unit it just says AV, it doesn't specify the RGB input. And when I hit it, gives me a black screen. I even spoke to a Pioneer representative and he just said that things like Netflix and such are not officially supported but sometimes might it might not work. It is just weird how the system shows for a split second. The video image and then it goes away.

on mine hdmi, av, aux, usb1, usb2, sd, pandora, aha, disc, are all options. So lets say i have phone in cradle which incorporates the apple a/v adapter, hdmi going into head unit, lightning into phone charger. I am not in app radio mode, i click on the bottom of the screen right to the left of the bluetooth square, and it brings up all my input options, i hit hdmi, my phone screen show up on head unit.  now i can not control iPhone from head unit it just mirrors it. now i haven't tried turning my phone sideways to see if it shows up in landscape mode on head unit. I am going to try to play netflix and see what happens.

Hopefully nothing is wrong with my head unit? maybe just a firmware update in the future? Weird I cannot see the RGB input as an option on my selection list. Thank you very much for the information. If you find out anything new, please let me know.

Mirroring works fine on an iPhone 5 with hdmi for me as well. I haven't tried netflix yet, but when I play YouTube, it doesn't actually mirror, it only plays on the NEX like it's a tv (which is what it is in hdmi mode). I'm not sure if non-hdmi output works the same from Idevices though.

AVIC-5000NEX (No built in HDMI port)  glitches NOW most all the time using iPhone 5 - IOS 7.1.1, Apple to lightning VGA Adapter, Pioneer CD-IV202AV iPhone5 adapter RGB - CD-IU52 USB charging cable.

5000NEX smartphone settings needs to be set for Device iPhone - Connection VGA / RGB ?

It worked periodically and then does not work for viewing Netflix, Youtube. I think this started happening after i updating to Apple IOS 7.0, & above. Not 100 % sure, but I used to be able to surf Youtube as long as I was using the Safari browser not Bing

I know for sure that AppRadio Mode used on a  iPhone 5 has problems going in and out of Waze apps since Apples 7.0.

Pioneer is supposed to fix their AppRadio App once Apple corrects whatever it is they messed up designing 7.0 IOS. Maybe the CarPlay update will fix other things as well. 7.1  IOS was a big update for Apple trying to make Car Play become compatible enough for testing using our NEX units

Officially Netflix / iPhone 5 mirroring is not supported, but I know I had it working before.

Wow. Thanks for all the info. So probably even if I changed to an hdmi capable nex unit ( which is not possible right now ) I would still have these problems? How do you go about sometimes getting it to work and sometimes not? Just randomly? Like I mentioned. Mine shows a slight image and then goes back to the app. Horrible.

Every time I use waze I have no issues, I wouldn't mirror waze cause then I lose touch capabilities on the screen.it's the only time I use app mode Iphone5s latest software, nex 8000.

The only time I use waze is if I'm bored and want to see some chat or if my nex doesn't find a road I need.
