lilharv321
Here is my dilemma, i have an avic 850 with the vga adapter for my iphone 5 installed in my car now but it has been giving me issues with bluetooth and app radio not working together. I have spoken to pioneer numerous times about it. I was thinking of going to the 5000 and hooking up the vga adapter as well. My questions are, 1. Is it even worth it? Big difference between the two units? 2. Can I still use youtube and display in on the screen using the vga adapter?
drenyce311
if you want to mirror youtube, you will need the 6000, 7000 or 8000
lilharv321
Ok, I saw on the website that the 5000 did have mirror capability. I'll try to see if they can order me a 6000.
drenyce311
There was a member in here who was having trouble with mirror. He sold the 5000 and ordered a 7000
luiss11
Yes. That would be me. Do not get the avic 5000nex. I had numerous problems trying to get mirroring to work. It never did... Spent $150 it adapters... I was lucky enough that the manager at best buy refunded the money and was able to get a 7000nex from somewhere else. The 8000nex is the flagship with its capacitive touchscreen, but for me the 7000nex doed it. I'm extremely crazy happy with my mirroring hdmi capable 7 inch 7000nex. Pick your poison... Starting from the Avic 6000 nex and up... You get HDMI and mirroring is 100% guaranteed by us here at the forums
lilharv321
Ok so, I'm done with this 850. I'm going to order the 6000. What else do I need for the mirroring for iphone 5? Do I need their adapter cdih202? I know i will need apples hdmi adapter.
rso81
My wife is switching from a Z130BT to a 7000NEX, so I say go for it.

Do I need their adapter cdih202? I know i will need apples hdmi adapter. For the mirroring? Just the Apple Lightning AV HDMI adapter and the standard HDMI cable of your choice. For this? a $1.99 HDMI eBay cable will suffice, trust me. No need for Pioneer's expensive "exclusive" cables for mirroring.
lilharv321
Ok thanks, I'm assuming for app radio I would need their other crap. I really didn't use app radio that much so I will prob not even order that other piece.

I have a 7000NEX and I connected the standard HDMI cable to the headunit. Then the USB extension cable included with the radio connect it to the USB 1 port and then on the other end remember the LIGHTNING HDMI av adapter. After this you are all set. No need to buy any adapters from Pioneer.
lilharv321
Thanks for all the help. I installed it today. Mirroring is working fine. I just did the hdmi and the usb into port 1. My question is I need to plug directly in for pandora to show up on the screen. This means I need to unplug off of my av adapter and directly into the phone. I planed on getting a lightening extension cable and hiding the a adapter but then there is no way for me to access pandora. Any suggestions? Should I run a second usb from port 2? TheEdge
I would run a second USB. I was unsure as to the best way to set this up as well. So I ended up just hooking up both USB's with extentions (I had to buy one), an HDMI cable and the Aux cable to terminate in my console. Most of the time I am using Bluetooth or my lightning connection anyway. If I need the HDMI/Lightning setup, it's a quick connection. Everyone's use will be different, and when Car Play comes out, it will change again for a lot of folks. I believe Car Play will need a lightning connection, so the lightning/HDMI cable will not work for Car Play. This is due to the fact that when the lightning cable is hooked up to the HDMI adapter, it is only good for charging, not data transfer. So it's best to keep the USB (1) extention terminating somewhere you can reach it.

You just need to go to smartphone setup and switch from iphone via Digital AV adapter to Wireless bluetooth connection. I don't plan on having my phone connected all the time so that's why I do the switch. I have not tried Pandora when connected with the Digital AV adapter.

Works perfectly fine that way. When car play comes out I'll figure out if I need to switch it or run a second usb. Def a better product than the 850 or 5000. You figure out a way to set a home destination for the nav? I'm still trying to work through the differences.

If I remember correctly it's just a matter of saving your location with a TAB. But let me get back to you.
