What MicroSD compatible with the 8000?

Recommended Posts

Correct.

All SD cards over 32Gb require exFAT.  The reason is fairly complex (I went into it in detail in the other thread); the short version however is there's no way around it.

If you try to cheat you risk losing everything on the card without warning.

exFAT is not in these head units because exFAT is a Microsoft-licensed thing so Pioneer would have to pay a fee to Microsoft for EACH unit sold, whether people used that feature or not.

This is what we, as consumers, get for buying things from companies that collude like this in a form and fashion that drives up prices for everyone.  The memory card companies COULD HAVE designed controllers that were compatible with FAT32, but didn't -- they instead colluded with Microsoft to effectively force a revenue stream to them for large-capacity cards and we have (thus far) gone along with it as consumers.

There's an entire thread about this on this forum. In the manual it states which types are compatable

At a loss here.  OP's question is regarding a MicroSD card.  According to the manual, the 8000 only has an SD card slot... not MicroSD... though I do realize they make adapters.

On size, the manual doesn't specifically say 32GB max, but it does say SDHC and I understand that standard limits the size to 32GB.  However, the manual says compatible physical formats are FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS.

So y'all are saying the 8000 won't read an SDXC card with NTFS formatting?

Has anyone tried formatting one as FAT32?

In the manual it does say SDHC, U are correct, and sd cards that are SDHC are only available up to 32 gig. Whether manufacturers of sd cards change that who knows, but not likely since it is old technology, pioneer could have made compensations for larger sd cards, who knows why they didn't.

Tickerguy is the one really knowledgable about this information, if you really want an explanation search his posts about it or send him a message. He's been very helpful and knowledgable about the cards.

You can format it for whatever u want, however you take the risk of corrupting your data.

Here's the thread, hope it helps you :)

Thanks for the link. A lot of useful info.

FWIW, I read on another site the majority of problems with reformatting an over-32GB SD card as FAT32 are a result of not ejecting it (suspending read/write operations) prior to physical ejection.  Unsure if that is actually true.
