Guys always remember the little disclaimer: specifications are subject to change. So, there will be no refunds from Pioneer because of this. And remember, they have done stuff like this before.

Sorry, that's bull. This is their current blurb on the UK website:

"The AVICSYNC app lets you access connected services such as traffic, weather and more. You’ll benefit from fresh map data and the most up-to-date and current information."

That app doesn't even exist and yet it's being advertised as a selling point, not a "maybe" or "coming soon" feature. If I bought any product and get it home to find out that what was on the box isn't actual reality then I'm entitled to a refund under the sale of goods act.

I heard through the grapevine and it's a pretty reliable grapevine - That Avicsync is on hold due to the App Developers withdrawing from the project cause they were having too many problems with it. Also I did some deep searching and found a Logo for AVICSYNC2 I haven't heard anything about it. But the logo is out there. I was told that the upcoming firmware update will be for Apple Car Play only. Avicsync is on the back burner. The new units will probably be shipping before you are able to use your connected features of the NEX Models.... 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000...

It sucks and I am disappointed.

I am disappointed as well, if what I believe is happening is actually happening... and that is if AvicSync was in any way delayed to get CarPlay developed and released.  It is a biased sentiment being I don't have an iPhone/iPad... but on the unbiased side of the coin, a delay of AvicSync affects all owners, whereas a delayed release of CarPlay only affects what percentage of owners???

My guess... about 75%

And perhaps tellingly, AVICSYNC is no longer anywhere to be found on the product info pages for the NEX models (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX/AVIC-8000NEX). At the same time, Carplay is listed first and is also prominently displayed on the Pioneer USA homepage (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/). Not hard to tell where Pioneer's priorities are, I suppose.

AVICSYNC and CARPLAY are two different things all together.

Tbh when your cell phone is connected you will see the avicsync icon to the lower right it's the car with arrows pointing to and from it.

AVICSYNC will basically complete your navigation features as well as offer additions POI's, weather, map updates etc for a small fee.

CARPLAY will allow Iphone owners to have CONNECTED hands free calling, maps etc with the same icons and layout as their phones.

Most if not all GM VEHICLES will feature iPads and iOS features such as car play as standard issue with new vehicles. So pioneer wanted to be ahead of the game.

ANOTHER REASON the firmware update is being delayed and this is speculation is that PAC is about to be suing Idatalink for some type of infringement on their Maestro RR technology. So more likely than not the Maestro RR features will be removed as well. I know IDATALINK and it's hard to imagine THEY stole technology from PAC but who knows.

AVICSYNC is still listed as a feature in their EU models.

The first picture in this set of 3 even shows a mock up of AVICSYNC on an iPhone!

This is what pisses me off, it's not mentioned as coming soon, it's on there like it's a feature immediately available.

Oh, and personally I'd rather them give me AVICSYNC first.
