Okay guys, here is my situation. I would love some suggestions if you have any on how to make this work.

I just ordered my 8000NEX, it will be replacing my Z2 with hard drive and Z3 software update.<-- ($For sale$)

In my truck connected to the Z2 I have the following:

-Sprint 4g Internet Hotspot (to provide dedicated internet and streaming media for passengers when traveling on trips)

-Hardwired (power only) Apple Airport Extreme router

-Hardwired (power only) Apple TV with HDMI to RCA conversion unit to AV input.

-Backup Camera connected to Rear Camera input.

-Will have the HDMI iPhone connector and lightning cable setup for NEX input/mirroring.

I need help to figure out how to connect these components most efficiently to the 8000NEX. I would prefer to have the Apple TV connected via HDMI, but the Cable for the iPhone mirroring is also HDMI.

Currently my Apple TV interferes with my backup camera input since they both display on the AV screen.

Would a HDMI Y cable work?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Joe

I agree with joemamma.

The other option is to use the auxiliary input (RCA composite AV).  No [external] switch required.  Essentially same setup you have now.  I don't know if you're satisfied with your current AV performance, but converting from HDMI to composite degrades your AV quality.

I really like the amount of inputs on these units. A/V, Aux, rear view, hdmi. Not to mention 2 usb. I have digital tv on A/V, apple tv and iphone on hdmi, rear view camera, front camera on Aux. U-260 on rgb input. Not a siriusxm user, so nothing there. Dual screens on video and audio output. Usb2 has 240gb ssd with 200+ ripped dvds, 32 gb of music on sd card. Usb1 is ran to where cig lighter was, ready for CarPlay.

I believe it is brown input not gray,

Yes I have the rear camera plugged into the brown (rear camera input)

Apple TV is plugged into yellow AV input..

When I start the truck, the rear camera view comes on,  and goes off after I shift out of Reverse.

but the "image may be reversed" message stays on the top of the screen, I have to hit map then AV buttons to get back to Radio screen.

apple TV will not come on without directly selecting AV from the menu.

I thought the AV and Rear video are the same shouldn't the Apple tv signal over ride the blank rear view mode when a rear signal is not present?

You can get hdmi splitter from radio shack. That is what i use. It is push button. My setup is similar, i use usb powered router(very small). Iphone via apple a/v adapter to splitter on 1, apple tv via hdmi to 2. Hdmi from splitter to head unit.

Interesting. I have not thought about an Apple TV setup. I have a verizon delphi connect 4G hot spot hooked up for my in car internet. Adding an AppleTV sounds cool. What do you find you are using the AppleTV for most?

do you have "Camera View" on?, i have my backup camera hookup up to 12v to HU harness when key on, and backup light 12v go to camera input signal, that way i can turn on camera view while driving it will show "image may be reversed" by touching screen it clear out, like a screensaver.

yeah camera view is on, but I connected the camera power wire to the reverse tail light circuit.

Do you have to switch back and forth between the HDMI signals with the splitter?

turn "Camera View" off, since you have it on but no power to the backup camera, camera get power when you put in reverse, if you want to view camera while driving, hook up camera 12v to acc or 12v key on from the desk red wire, than you can use "Camera View" but for now turn them off and see if it effect your apple TV.

Yes i do. I was looking at some that have remote control, like the one i have on my home tv, but it has to be powered. Not really a problem there, because i removed the cig lighter and rerouted to my glove compartment, and put usb1 extension in place of cig lighter. I have dual usb charger in my glove compartment, one usb to lightning cable is in apple a/v adapter, so when i want to use app radio, i don't have to change anything( i have lightning extension hooked up to a/v adapter so one cord is coming out of glove compartment box. I purchased a nice 1 foot usb to lightning cable(cost 27.00, but very well made) that goes from usb1 to phone mount. When CarPlay comes out, i will probably hardly ever use app radio. I know that my system is overkill, but being an old tech geek, it is cool to have so many toys to play with.

I use it mainly for youtube, airplay for pics and video off my phone. My 2 and 4 year old girls watch pbs kids.
