Appradio issue when connecting both Apple & Android Devices at same time? (avic-8000nex)

Recommended Posts

My plan was to connect my iPod touch to USB 1 and connect my Htc One phone to USB 2 & HDMI for appradio connection. For the life of me I can't get appradio to connect (all settings are correct with "other" and "HDMI" selected for the smartphone connection). The HU (avic-8000nex) mirrors my phone screen and even starts the calibration test (press the white dots), but the touch control on the HU doesn't work and I get the red x with white hand/touch icon when I touch the screen.

I've read in a previous appradio troubleshoot thread that the HU has an issue with devices using a different OS being plugged in at the same time and that the solution is to unplug the cable from USB 1 completely if I want to use appradio. Has anyone had this issue and, if so, is unplugging the cable from USB 1 (thus eliminating by iPod altogether) the only solution?

It's inconvenient enough that I have to unplug my iPod from the cable just to get the bluetooth from my phone to work, but I'm hoping I don't have to scrap the iPod completely. I should note that, other than this issue, the unit is pretty great! I'd highly recommend it to anyone on the fence about buying.

Thanks in advance on any replies/suggestions.

get one working 1st before start another, your phone is not in "Permissive Mode" that why you can't control from the HU, follow my post here with pics and get it fix http://appradioforums.com/Thread-Connecting-S4-to-AppRadioU-On-Pioneer-Avic-8000NEX-Help-Please

Yep, that was it. Got it working now. Thanks a lot!

FYI for anyone else with this issue who has no idea what the heck permissive mode is or how to change it (like me), there is an app for rooted androids called SELinuxModeChanger that lets you switch your device between "Permissive" and "Enforcing" mode easily with one touch. I DL'd the app, made the change to permissive, made sure the appradio connections were correct and then began the appradio startup process again. It didn't work the first time, so I rebooted my phone while still plugged in. When it rebooted, it worked!

  • 2 weeks later...

I did the SELINIX and rooted. I will try another HDMI cable..

question: can i use my MHL adpater and use USB power from another source not head unit? Its just power for the unit right so i dont need to take up one of my USB ports off the 4000?

I use my usb ports for phone and solid state drive, my av adapter is hooked up to charger, that is best way. If i want appradio, i hook phone to av adapter, otherwise it is hooked up to usb.
