X940BT hacking needed

Recommended Posts

I bought a car that came with an AVIC X940BT.

It works well, but has a very annoying defects in software design.

1. When you mute the volume,.. it puts the letters "ATT" right over the clock,.. so when you mute to answer a phone call,.. and you're planning to meet someone and need to know the time,... it's blocked.

Can someone moove that over to the left a bit?

2. There are only 6 FM presets in a band.  This all began in the 1950's when car radios had mechanical buttons,.. and there was only space for so many. With electronics you can have as many as you have butto9ns for,.. and my wife's 2012 Lincoln has 10 per band.  But with software-driven touch-screen computers like these AVIC's,.. there is no reason there couldn’t be 3, or 250 FM presets in a band.  I think Pioneer and Alpine only give you 6 just to be mean.  No other explanation.

Really there should be a menu tab in settings where you choose how many FM presets you want.  You could select 11 in FM,.. and 3 in AM if you liked.

I'd like to have 6 across the top of the screen,.. and another 6 across the bottom, with the one in use highlighted.  Most of the screen is just dead-space anyway,.. which they desperately try to fill with nonsense.

3. I would like to be able to customize the sources in the column on the left.  It seems the code is already in the machine for this.  For example,... if I plug in and unplug the XM module,.. the XM comes and goes.
But I do not use blue-tooth,. AM,.. or AV2 either,... and I'd like them to go away and have the remaining source icons that I actually DO use be bigger.  There should be a menu tab that allows you to select from a list what sources you do and do not want on the home-screen.

I only want "Off"  "Ipod"  "Disk"  and "FM" in the source column.

4. Mute feature.  My car has steering wheel controls and a PAC module that interfaces with the radio.  However using the steering wheel mute only makes the radio about 20 db quieter,... and not silent.  In the settings menu there is a tab to adjust how much muting is done (-10, -20, and All),.. but it only seems to affect the muting level when you push and hold the rotary knob on the radio itself for 4 seconds.  When I push the steering wheel button,.. it will not mute all the way,.. so I have to hit mute, then "volume down",.. then mute again to have it be quiet.
I'd like the software fixed so that it mutes the same as pushing and holding the rotary knob mute.

How much of these fixes are possible?  And how much would they cost to have done?

Any takers?
