Adeimus
Hi all, looking at installing the 8000NEX in a 2012 Grand Cherokee with backup camera already installed. Question: Will I be able to retain the existing OEM camera or will I need to replace it? Thanks in advance for any help!
forcedfedbug
You can keep it but most likely you need a converter. Most car manufactures do not use the rca connector for video. However there is most likely a converter that will convert the signal from the camara to rca. You should ask a car stereo place or search on the internet for the converter. jhren
May not even need a converter. May just need an adapter harness to match connectors. AFAIK all your basic back-up cameras use a two-wire composite signal.
Mr. Furious
It appears that you will need an adapter. http://www.jeepgarage.org/f155/jeep-backup-camera-w-aftermarket-headunit-55252.html I hope it's easier for you to find than it was for me to find one for my Passat. VW uses an RGB camera, so I had to buy a converter to connect the OEM 26-pin interface to the camera input on my 8000.

I have a vw and found the converter on one of the first couple links using a google search. Since my car did not come with a camera it was easy for me to find the correct one for the radio. That being said though I got the oem golf pop-out one so was not as cheap as it could have been. Ron
Mr. Furious
It would've been really easy for me to add a camera if my Passat hadn't come with one - I could've had one from Amazon in two days in that case, or even one from eBay that's built into the trunk release like the OEM one. However, it did come with one, and I was comfortable with the quality, so I wanted to use it. I found exactly one source for the appropriate 26-pin adapter. It shipped directly from China, and took a couple of weeks to arrive. That was annoying, but overall not a huge deal. It would've introduced even more serious delays in getting my install done had there been a problem with it, though.
Quartaro
Mr. Furious, What did you order? I also have a Passat and would like to use my factory camera with aftermarket head unit. Thanks.
