Pioneer Announcement: Nothing Works with IOS 8

Recommended Posts

This was just posted to the Pioneer Facebook page a little while ago:

Important Notice for AppRadio Mode Users

Dear Valued Customer,

For AppRadio users and users of Pioneer DVD receiver and navigation receiver models with AppRadio Mode, Pioneer has completed its compatibility evaluation of iOS 8 with AppRadio Mode.

Please see below for important information:

iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s and iPod touch (5th generation) users:

The following AppRadio Mode applications are currently not compatible with iOS 8 due to a stability issue that results when using the in-app keyboard.

- AppRadio

- AppRadioLIVE

- Waze

- ECTouch

- CarBrowser

- DashCommand

- ExtraMile

- Beej

- Parkopedia

The following AppRadio Mode applications are currently not compatible with iOS 8 due to general stability and/or display related issues.

- Escort Live

- My PV

- MIXTRAX

To maintain AppRadio Mode use of these apps, please continue using iOS 7.1.2 with your iPhone or iPod touch.

iPhone 4 and iPod touch (4th generation) users: iOS 8 is not compatible with your iPhone or iPod touch, so the update does not affect your use of AppRadio and AppRadio Mode.

WOW. So much for waiting for IOS 8 to solve some problems. Looks like not only do we not have CarPlay, but also nothing that we already did have will work if we get a new iPhone or upgrade to IOS 8.

Pioneer keeps getting better and better....

Thankfully I abandoned anything having anything to do with AppRadio mode a long time ago.  But for those who did use it, now to have its functionality lost while still no CarPlay?  Wow.  And is rolling back to iOS 7.1.2 even an option for those who went to iOS 8 yesterday until Pioneer can can figure out their patches?

Another rhetorical question:  Does this mean that any firmware update which we would've gotten has now been pushed back to incorporate these AppRadio patches?

Thankfully, I'm happy with my 8000NEX in its current configuration (aside from POI's which in my experience were better on my Z120BT).

I'd hate to be a coder for Pioneer right now.

I understand the frustration. But why would you update to the "latest and greatest" os...which really doesn't seem that vastly different...knowing that there is compatibility issues (its not just isolated to Pioneer product, this happens EVERY time Apple releases a new phone and OS).

Because 1) I bought a new phone, so it wasn't really an option not to have IOS 8, and 2) Pioneer had FIVE beta versions to test their software on, and apparently chose not to. Also, why should anyone let Pioneer dictate their equipment and/or software decisions? It's Pioneer's responsibility to keep current when they've had every opportunity to do so.

Great use of time with the betas then Pioneer. Well done.

Exactly. This doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy about CarPlay actually working IF it actually gets released by the end of this year. Pioneer should be deeply ashamed of themselves for blatently selling hardware on false promises and broken functionality. I am beginning to wish I had waited for Alpine's version.

never said you'd be letting Pioneer dictate your actions. You can do whatever the fuck you want. I'm saying that it's like converting your car into E85 when no gas station around you carries it and throwing a fit.... I haven't updated my iPhone to 8 yet. Maybe it's because I work in the industry and see how much these IOS updates affect all manufacturers. Hell, when the iPhone 5 came out, Kenwood couldn't even use the bluetooth, Alpine needed a firmware update to connect via USB and BT. Just saying.

I have had no issues with my 5 & 8000NEX.

Tomorrow, I'll report what my 6+ does.

My 5s works about the same with my 4000NEX as it did with IOS7.  That is to say it works sometimes and doesn't work other times.  In both cases I find I have to go to the Smartphone settings and switch to and back from Bluetooth Audio to Smartphone.at times to get things to sync properly.

Sounds like you work for Pioneer to me.

i have been say this a long time. this is a disaster that Pioneer should of been on top of. instead they left their decks lacking advertised features with a good amount of bugs to focus selling decks with software they had no control of. this will be the last pioneer product i buy!

Not at all, just not a blind consumer. I am an independent retailer/MECP/ASE certified 12v technician.

Nice. Can you reply without condescension?

Apple quietly removes promise of 2014 CarPlay availability as it adds CBS News Radio compatibility

Apple has quietly updated its CarPlay microsite which explains the feature to add CBS News Radio to its growing list of apps it grants CarPlay support to, but a bigger change also appears on the CarPlay site this morning. Apple is no longer promising CarPlay support from any automobile manufacturer this year as it has done since its debut in March. While there has been no shortage of CarPlay demoes and availability announcements, actually getting your hands on a model with CarPlay thus far has proven almost impossible.

The site now says CarPlay “will be available†from listed partners without offering any specific timeframe (and removing the 2014 language for specific brands altogether). This is likely due to delays in CarPlay availability thus far, even in models that have announced support earlier this year with cars that are now on the road.
