KarNPlay
For those with the 8000 who have updated to CarPlay, are you able to pinch-to-zoom with Apple Maps? If so, how smooth is it? More generally, how responsive and smooth is it when scrolling through the various CarPlay screens?

More generally, how responsive and smooth is it when scrolling through the various CarPlay screens? Apple decided to go with a + and - button for zooming in Maps for CarPlay. Honestly, it works better and is less distracting, in my opinion.

KarNPlay
Thank you both for that information. The videos I've seen have all been with the resistive screen units, so I wasn't sure if the 8000 and its capacitive screen would allow pinch-to-zoom. And now that CarPlay is live, I'm about ready to go all-in and get the 8000. Have you been happy with the responsiveness of the unit?
mapotter99
I love the 8000NEX, even before it had CarPlay! The capacitive screen is quite responsive, but it is a glass finish... it is very reflective and it shows fingerprints. I installed an anti-glare iPad Mini screen protector, cut to size, on mine... Makes all the difference in the world! No reflections and no fingerprints!
spudnik187
The whole reason I bought the 8000 and not one of the "lower" models was to use the capacitive touch with Carplay. I sure wish I would have known Carplay wasn't going to take advantage of them. I could have saved myself some money. Oh well...

The capacitive screen still pays off for me when I am scrolling through my music library, contacts, etc. It will also be nice when more apps add CarPlay support and we have multiple pages to swipe between. Pjrm68
Having had both, I can tell you that the capacitive screen scrolls MUCH more smoothly than the resistive one. Your money was well spent. The screen is the only thing I miss about my SPH-DA210.

Hi, Pioneer is currently demoing their new Carplay-compatible AppRadio 4 (SPH-DA120 in Europe) with a capacitive 6.2" touchscreen at Paris Motor Show. There IS pinch-to-zoom in Apple Maps, see at 0:40 in this video: So it's weird that the AVIC-8000NEX, which also has a capacitive screen, does not allow pinch-to-zoom in Apple Maps after the Carplay FW update.
