Lawton
i know very well that the D3's cheap in price for a reason, and that's the 1-drive scheme. to be honest i'd really, really love to have a dedicated drive just for the nav functionality. is it possible in any way to hack an external dvd drive in? and i mean ANY way, short of buying an external GPS (which is kind of stupid)? MisFit
an external dvd player would be more reasonable
sportsfan21
I highly, highly doubt it. For the amount of money it would cost you, considering you'd probably end up destroying at least one D3 and have to buy another one, you can buy a Z2 instead and save yourself a lot of trouble. coocho
umm... THe D3 screen is non adjustable, so I dont know what you are planning on doing by trying to make it internal.

gsj224
As the memory is base in the board it harnesses all of the control e.i. open/close function which basically means turn on DVD player, mute sound <> Nav Voice etc.....You will pretty much have to build a new unit, which gets back into the ridiculous. Its good to dream though, but they are right why not just get an external DVD drive to run the dvd functions it will cost you less FAR less, LOL instead of playing McGyver (if it aint broke dont try to fix it)
necro
It doesn't explicitly say so, but maybe this would work: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 41,00.html Pioneer XDV-P6 6 Disc DVD player with IP-Bus control from the HU. Much easier than hacking up your D3 and adds 6 discs. Of course, it's not confirmed to work with the D3 though.
mlammert
I originally looked into using the Pioneer XDV-P6 with my D3 as well... From my understanding you can use the XDV-P6 in STANDALONE mode only with the D3... Meaning, you will not have menu control of the XDV-P6 via the D3... My understanding is that the XDV-P6 makes use of and requires the AV-BUS and IP-BUS... The D3 does not have the AV-BUS... I agree with everyone else in this thread, you would be much better off connecting an external standalone DVD player to the D3 and just using the D3's internal drive for NAV functions... Good luck, Mark
Itchy
What about a quad din setup? Two D3's stacked on top of each other.
SAHN
You mean like this one??? 4 AVIC-D1s 1 Dedicated to Windows 1 Dedicated to XBOX 1 Dedicated to Sirius 1 Dedicated to GPS I also have 3 other remotes installed at the 12:00, 4:00, 6:00 & 8:00 positions on my steering wheel. Next I'm gonna replace the driver's airbag w/ a D3 dedicated to Young Asian Male Porn.
Itchy
Perfect! Now can you mod those 4 screens into 1 and make 1 giant screen with picture in picture?
SAHN
But then were would my directional arrow go? I guess I'll have to add a 5th screen on top of those?
