Navigation settings - crossing over from Garmin

Recommended Posts

Newbie to Pioneer NAV.  I just installed a NEX5000 into the wife's Handicap accessible minivan.  Replaced the factory radio and the external Garmin. (We've had Garmin's since 06)  Best Buy sold me on the Car Play instead of using a Kenwood like I have in all my other vehicles.  Anyway, years and years ago I installed Pioneers and I got this one installed and it looks great.  The Car Play took a little setup since out of the box the HU was on 1.03 and I had to dig around and realize that I had to upgrade to 1.08.  Once I did that I got the Car Play to work.  My questions are:

1. Can I import all the saved locations that I have from my Garmin?  I can export them from the Garmin in various formats.

2. On the Garmin one of the best features was the ability to click on a button that said "Go Home."  Is there something similar?  My wife is declining in health and gets frustrated easily and I want to make this as simple as possible for her.  She likes the iPhone integration, but came home in tears this morning because she couldn't figure out how to use the NAV to get home after dropping off the kids at school.  She ended up disconnecting the iPhone and using the iPhone map to do it.

3. Is there a way to build a custom route in the Navi so that I can set it up for her to go to the first location, then the second location then back home?  All with as few buttons as possible?

If not, I fear that this radio will go back to Best Buy and I will get the Kenwood that has the Garmin interface in it and I will sacrifice the Car Play features.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks!

Sorry for the spelling errors.

I don't know the answers from the Pioneer side, but I can tell you that the Kenwood (I have the 990 not 100% sure if it carries over to the 991 ) might not be able to do #1 as you have to use their 'route collector' software to import routes and I don't think that can import something from a garmin.

For # 2 on the Kenwoods there is a 'go home' option on the 990 but it calculates the route.

for #3 IF (and it's a big if) you can get Route Collector to work right you can do that.... a LOT of people have not been able to get it to work right.  Me being one of them.

Just an FYI so you don't just abandon the Pioneer thinking the Kenwoods will work better... 8)

If you like using the Apple Map under carplay, you can always use Siri to get around.  You can hold down the center button on the NEX, or the iPhone button, and once Siri kicks in just say go home, or directions to home, or something along those lines.  As long as you have a "me" entry in your contacts list, that wiil do it.
