enron29
Alright, trying to figure this whole mirror thing out. Recently purchased the AVH-4000NEX unit, and I have a AT&T Galaxy Note 4. I'm trying to see if there is a way to get the full on mirror and control of my phone on the head unit screen. I don't really want to root my phone (and not sure if I can from what I've read), so the ARUnchained option is out. So I saw the ARLiberator option. However, it seems like this won't work on the NEX units? Is this true? Has there been any updates to allow this to work? If that does not, is there any other options to get this to work? I believe I need to get an MHL adpater and plug the HDMI and USB into the back of the headunit (USB into the lower port, correct?). Then the micro USB goes into my phone. But this alone will have limited ability and will not do what I'm looking for, correct? Thanks for the help.
enron29
Ok, really stupid question. If I have a MHL adapter and plug from HDMI to my Note 4, will this simply do what I'm wanting and mirror to the 4000NEX? Similar to just plugging it into the TV?
EditorDZ
If you plug it into the HDMI port via an MHL adapter, then yes, it will mirror your device. However, you won't be able to control your device through the NEX's touchscreen. For that, you need one of the apps you listed above.
enron29
Will the display match on the screen through the MHL, or will the aspect ratio be weird?
EditorDZ
I have an 8000, and have no problems with the aspect ratio.

enron29
Ok, new question. So I know the bottom USB is for the android and the top is for apple. Does that mean that the top cannot be used if I have android? Or can I run the USB adapter cable they provide to the OEM USB port on my dash for my flash drive? RRSpikes
I'd check USB 1 to see if it's used to update the radios firmware on the 4000. I have a USB cable inatalled on USB 1 for firmware updates and to add personal background images. I do use it for a music via flashdrive when I loose cell phone signal driving x country. I can't say connecting the radios USB cable to your vehicles USB port is possible because I don't know what your driving. If you have a Honda, the answer is a definite yes. RRSpikes
Check Metra/Axxess for an adapter. These adapters don't plug into the back of the USB port but plug into the wire harness in the dash. I don't see one specifically for a 2014 4runner but that doesn't mean the ones they make for other model years won't work. eBay has several USB ports that can easily replace your existing USB port. This might be your best bet.
enron29
Alright, so things worked like I thought. USB cable in USB1 port for flash drive and HDMI MHL connector for mirror with USB from MHL in USB2 for charging. Only thing is the mirror image of my Note 4 doesn't quite fit the screen. The aspect ratio is a little off. Any way to adjust this?
RRSpikes
You need to use a different launcher with Samsung phones. Apex, Nova, Google Now, etc.

RRSpikes
This is how Touchwiz displays in landscape. This is how an alternative launcher displays in landscape. I use Nova Prime but Apex, Google Now and others will work just as well.
