8000NEX in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler 4 Door with UConnect? I Need Help PLEASE

Recommended Posts

First off, I wanna say hello to you guys out there. I am new to this forum as a member BUT I have been reading a lot of threads and have gained much useful information and help from you guys and for that, I thank you!

The reason I am coming to the forum to ask my question is because the ASSholes at iDataLink support center were rude and really didn't help with my concerns and problems.

My questions/challenge for you is:

1. How do I need to setup/Configure my Pioneer AVIC 8000NEX Head Unit with my iDataLink RR Maestro with CH1 Harness adapter for Jeep/Chrysler....?

  • Installing into a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4 Door with Phone Buttons on the Steering Wheel and without factory Amp
  • I want to Retain my factory UConnect if possible just to use the factory installed Bluetooth Microphone... (I am using my factory USB in the center console as my USB port for CarPlay ( I disconnected it from the UConnect module, adapted it to a normal USB and ran it straight to the Pioneer Head Unit )
  • I want to be able to stream BlueTooth Audio as well as use CarPlay.

2. While flashing my iDataLink module it gives me choices whether to keep UConnect. I have flashed it both ways and have had problems.. I'm going to try again and redo it while RESETTING the HeadUnit as well.

Thanks for reading and your time guys!

I don't think they ever turned on those features

I know it has a lot to do with the head unit in vehicle now,  whether the phone is built in or not

Does it say "REQ", or "REN" on radio  what code?

I have used Maestro in a Town & Country with 8000NEX and it retained the factory features

Maestro has a great forum and questions are always answered by tech right away:

Thanks I'll check out the forum... as for the question, my stock radio was an "RES" model with phone buttons and my steering wheel has phone buttons on it.

My main question is can I use my stock Bluetooth microphone for phone calls but use the receiver Bluetooth for Bluetooth audio streaming? If so how can I set it up?

I also have a 2014 Unlimited Wrangler with the AVIC 8000NEX.  I don't think you can use both the stock mic and the NEX mic.  With the new Maestro firmware they give you the UConnect option, which I tried, and it didn't work.  I had to change back to SIRI answering my when I hold my VR button on the steering wheel.  My guess is when the stock UConnect radio is replaced, the stock mic no longer functions.  I ran the NEX mic wire behind the dash gauges, up the side of the driver's door and clipped it into the plastic molding right next to the visor bracket.  It's actually closer than the stock mic and picks up my voice really well.  Just curious, how did you hook up the center console USB?

I have the "RES" model and I have Phone buttons both on the steering wheel and on the stock radio Head Unit. I called into support yesterday and was told that I am not able to retain my uConnect Microphone since it looks like it is a powered mic (3 wires-1 Black, 1 Red, 1 White) which i confirmed the wires... I don't know if it is possible to strip and connect these wires into the Pioneer microphone that looks like a 2.5 Jack. I flashed my module with uConnect retained and I couldn't use uConnect for anything. I didn't even get the voice command when i pressed the uConnect VR button on the steering wheel, I only got an alert on the Pioneer Head Unit displaying "No USB / BT Detected" (attached image)

So now I have re-flashed without uConnect and ran the Pioneer Microphone to the spot where the Driver side Visor screws into the Jeep frame. I guess this is the way it HAS to be... I really wanted to use the stock microphone because it sounds very clear and is good quality audio..

I will take a picture and load it up to show you soon. But what I did was pretty simple after figuring it out.

Behind the A/C control panel and the one under it that is the cargo net thing, there is the uConnec module... un screw that and then there are connectors going into it.. I believe there are 2 connectors.. one bigger and one smaller.. The smaller is the Jumper USB from the center console.

Unplug this one and then you will need an adapter like this $1.68 piece of joy (female mini USB to Male USB A):

what you do is,
  1. Plug this adapter into the uConnect USB Jumper (behind the A/C control panel)
  2. Run the USB extender cable that came with the head unit from this adapter to the back of the Head Unit - USB slot #1 if you want this to be the CarPlay usb port.
  3. Check to see if the USB slot in the center console lights up when it has power and it should be connected and working

On the left i am holding the adapter and on the right (gray connector) is the one that is plugged into your uConnect Module. You have to unplug it from the uConnect module and then plug the black adapter into the gray connector and then your USB cable will go from the black adapter to the Radio Head Unit.(#1 slot for CarPlay and #2 spot for normal USB modes)

Here is how i have mine tucked away and connected. It works like it should and has a solid connection. it is tucked in a way that it will not rattle or move around and cause it to disconnect.

I, too, have a JKU :jeepwave . How are you guys finding the voice quality of the microphone. The guys who installed my head unit put the mic in front pillar where the original one was. I've had nothing complaints from my coworkers and friends and I can't figure out if it's a faulty mic (even though it was replaced) , a bad head unit, a bad install or if the pioneer 4000nex is just crappy. The comments are basically that it sounds like a distant walketalkie or speakerphone.

I would love to hear your experiences because I'm at my wits end

Does the wiring harness plug into the bottom harness where the uconnect is? Or do you leave the unconnect part plugged in then connect the maestro wiring harness in at the top behind radio and then from there plug into the back of the radio. I am not planning on using Uconnect.
