AVIC-X7115BT Advice Please

I picked up an AVIC-X7115BT recently to pop into my wifes SUV and I have a couple questions I hope can be answered. I've not had a chance to install the unit as I'm waiting for the
PAC SWI-PS to arrive. I did already do the mute wire mod to give me a parking brake bypass.

 

1) I'd like to know if the firmware on this unit can be flashed to a firmware of a higher model, I see a lot of users on here that seem to have done this with other radio models. Maybe gain some new functionality or upgrade the interface?

 

2) I downloaded the 2013 map update software found in this thread: http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/38472-2013-usacan-maps-download/

I don't want to brick it, is this compatible with my model of radio? If not what do I need?
