2015 Avic Z120 map update

Recommended Posts

Ok..good news.

BlakeStone was nice enough (and so is kellinaradway) to upload the complete update 2015 map for Z140BT (and newer units). Basically just download that and replace the verinfo file from pionara and it'll update.

I was curious what the differences were between the Z120 and Z140 updates were (other than CardInfo), so I ran pionara's perl script in the Z140 Update directory using the Z120's manifest file (ALLDATA.VER). Oddly the only differences were in UPDATE\NDATA (which I assumed were just maps). I had expected that most differences would be in USER\PRG ( the application programs ), but they were identical.

Attached is the log of the NDATA crc file verification.

Summary of NDATA differences:

  • Files NDATA.001 thru NDATA.085 were different
  • Files NDATA.086 thru NDATA .105 were identical
  • File   NDATA.106 was different
  • Files NDATA.107 thru NDATA.114 were present for Z120 and missing for Z140

So besides having 86 different NDATA files, there were 8 more files for the Z120. So these differences must somehow explain why we couldn't just mod CardInfo and use pionara's VERINFO.DAT and install the Z120 release on the Z130/Z140. But that trick seemed to work for the 2015 European upgrade.

I also should add that the nag screen bypass works great as well on the 140BT. Thanks for posting the info Rons.

Hey man, is it possible for you to post -step by step -what you did with your install so as to avoid any errors because I am also running Z140-BH and dont want the system to screw up or lock out. I did download VEINFO.DAT file and 2015 MAPS CIF - what other files do I need ? also downloaded the main file from the first post. What else is needed ?

but what exactly you did from step 1 until install started working perfectly?

I have an iPod wired and have no problems. Are you trying to use BT? That will prevent some things from working since Apple doesn't support the Audio/Video Remote Control Protocol (AVRCP). For example Aha and Pandora must use the cable for iPhone/iPod.

There have been several people (myself included) who have had BT audio problems with Android v5 & 6 and AVIC BT 3.32. Falling back to the 2012 FIRMWARE seemed to fix some of those issues.

I found my problems go away if I am on some other (non-BT) audio source when the AVIC boots and starts playing. Then, after I see the BT connection message, I switch to the BT source (such as Pandora). But that is with my Android phone. Don't know if iStuff has the same issue.

I have experienced the same issues.  I had to downgrade my software to 5.0 2013 Update but I kept the firmware at 3.32. When i updated to 2015 with 3.32 It seems as if the Bluetooth will not hold the connection and only plays my music for about 3 seconds before stopping and disconnecting.  I am running an iphone 5s on IOS 9.0.2.  Simply downgrading my software back to 2013 but keeping the BT firmware at 3.32 works.  Means something is up with the 2015 software.

oh Wait the original link is not working anymore ? any alternative link?

This seems more complicated than it is because there are two different AVIC series that use this upgrade: Z-series (Z110/120/130/140) and X-series (x920/930/940). Each series has its own forum. Most of us have been reading both forums ( plus the F-series one) since the knowledge needed is spread out and it is a common solution. To complicate it even more, there are two different sets of files for the US/CAN 2015 upgrade. One set only works with the older units (Z110, Z120, x920) and the other works with newer units (z130, z140, x930, x940).

With previous upgrades (normally released annually) we only needed one set of files (UPDATE, FIRMWARE directories) and only needed to place on the SD the CardInfo.CIF file for the older or newer units. For some reason that didn't work this year. Many of the UPDATE files differ between the older and newer units. I still don't understand why.

Keep in mind that you are reading a thread in the Hacks sub-forum which is a work-in-progress - not a how-to procedure. It presumes a certain level of expertise. However it seems that the messy details have finally been sorted-out. We now have a very simple process which only requires a little knowledge on using your computer - basically how to download, extract the compressed files, and copy them onto your installation SD.

Unfortunately links to files sometimes get stale. They all do eventually. For the time being, get your files here:

  • z110bt, z120bt, x920Bt - older units  update: stale link. Get "newer units" file below then see post #140
  • z130bt, z140bh, x930bt, x940bt - newer units

Then extract the files, copy UPDATE, FIRMWARE, and CardInfo.CIF to the root of a freshly formatted FAT32 SD, and insert it into your unit.

Let's try to keep this thread on topic. I'm sure it will get cluttered-up enough with upgrade problems. They always do. It seems that both Android and iPhones are having BT issues - maybe we'll see a patch release from Pioneer.

Million thanks. -if it weren't for people like you this forum would be dead. Thanks a lot again for active support and helping us newbies out.

I loaded this on my X930BT earlier today.  Everything seem to update smoothly.  However, my iPod cable no longer work with iPhone 6S.  It can only charge but does not detect a device.  Any recommendation?

Thanks all!

Try this. Seems like a common issue with the Z130/x930. http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/81751-avic-z130-2015-update-broke-ipod-wired-connection/&do=findComment&comment=336468

Hi Guys, its been awhile! I downloaded RonS's newer units link and unzipped and put the UPDATE, FIRMWARE, and CardInfo.CIF to the root of a freshly formatted FAT32 SD just as instructed...  I have a X940BT and teh update starts but after 1%, if halts and an error pops up that says "Incompatible SD Card, Please enter another SD" or something like that.  Now that my HU is in update mode, the error keeps coming up when I turn on the unit.  Any suggestions??  I read the whole post and it seems some had teh same issue but it also semms that it was rectified and RonS link would work??  Any help would be appreciated!

It might actually be an incompatible SD so you could get another 4 to 8 GB one very cheap and try that. Larger capacity or new fast ones seem to be problematic. It also could be a problem with the files. Are you using a Mac? The file extraction program might not be working right.

If you just want to abort the update altogether, you'll need to get into  TestMode and delete \USER\SYSTEM\Download\StartKnd.log.

Then remove your TestMode SD (or USB stick), and it should restart into regular mode on next power up.
