AVICSYNC app for iOS (iPhone 6)...sucks

Recommended Posts

Ok anyone else have this problem? After the update to 1.11 I d/l'ed the app and you can't even go beyond the Accept page as the No/Yes touch doesn't work. Even connecting it to the NEX and trying to add the phone that way doesn't work as the screen won't let you click on the Add Phone area.

Someone at Pioneer was either drunk or asleep when they tested this obviously....

Anyone else have these same issues? Grumble....

Need to get it accepted/associated on the NEX first. Watch the video on how to do that via BT or Lightening cable. Then you will be able to down load content on the app via the shop menu. I've associated 2 iPhones (6 & 6s Plus) with no problems. Agree that the AVICSYNC features are less than desired, but at least your Nav is now actively connected to real time traffic data and can do online searches. Also you can find points of interest via the phone app, and then when connected pull that into the head unit. Beats having to finger punch that in on the head unit. I still find using CarPlay superior. Hopefully Pioneer will continue to refine the AVICSYNC.

Yeah...couldn't get that to work either. It forces you back to your phone/app to accept some sort of waiver. Without the ability to do that, AVICSYNC doesn't work too well.

I'll try again and make sure the I/O settings on my NEX are correct. We'll see what happens. That part where it says Associate with your phone? When you go to the phone, the Yes option, when touched, does nothing.

Oh well I'll try again.

EDIT: yep same thing. Can't accept or associate with the actual phone screen at all. So...AVISYNC is a bust for me. Unless someone has a video of how it's supposed to be done. Because the ones on YouTube don't show you how to get the phone screen to work.

Go to YouTube and search for "AVICSYNC" to find the how to videos.

Did that, edited response

Here's what comes up on my iPhone screen. Notice the text cut off (in either orientation) as well as the Yes No options which cannot be selected no matter how many times you touch/push/curse at them.

I would uninstall and reinstall the app on your phone and try again following the video steps. Maybe it will work like mine did. Someone else suggested shutting off the CarPlay feature as well during the initial pairing.

Uninstalled the app 2x now. Perhaps killing CarPlay might be a good idea. Will try later. Frustrating as hell though....

Yes I remember that query. I was able to accept "Yes". So not sure why that it's not working on your iPhone? Maybe restart the phone, reinstall the app, and try again. Weird and frustrating for sure. Killing CarPlay isn't going to help if you can't get the app to work first.

I honestly don't see the point. Apple Maps is good enough where I live, and provides live traffic, and live rerouting, and is completely free. I wish Carplay would get google maps or Waze, but till then, I'm pretty happy with Apple carplay.

Totally agree if you use Carplay/Android Auto. AVICSYNC at least connects your head-unit to the internet/cloud now.  My wife is the primary driver of the car and never uses Carplay.  She uses the built in Pioneer Nav all the time, so the online search and real time traffic is a nice benefit.  Especially since she connects using BT all the time vs lightning cable.  So now the Nav has a bit of extra functionality while the services are FREE.  I seriously doubt I will pay for it when the FREE expires.   Better off investing in updated Maps vs what the connected services offer.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, maybe Pioneer went cheap and hired cheap/incompetent developers?

How else can you explain the #1 core reason for needing AVICSYNC (tapping into iOS contacts) does not work?

Someone at Pioneer should be fired. And someone's manager.
