Presumably he wasn't getting this error before the upgrade.  And that nothing odd happened while installing 2015.  By "he doesn't even have a tuner installed" I assume you mean a traffic tuner.

Was he upgrading (to 2015) from the original Z110-BT firmware? Or did he have a newer version? It matters because the original Z110 used an optional MSN traffic tuner (ND-MDT10). Support for that went away in the Z130 firmware (ver 3 firmware). That's when the newer RDS based ND-TMC10 tuner support appeared. But if the old MSN tuner was present - you got a similar message.

Are you absolutely sure he didn't have the ND-MDT10 installed?

If it is installed, he needs to unplug it. If there isn't one - I'd force a cold reset (disconnect the battery for a few minutes) before doing anything else.

Regarding falling-back to old software, there are a couple possible solutions.

Testmode does have a couple "force write" from SD functions. But I've never used them and they seem very dangerous. You'd need the old version on SD in the proper format (which I don't know what that is).

An easier and less risky method would be to use the previous version that is installed on the unit. There are two copies of firmware installed on the unit. They are in USER/PRG0 and USER/PRG1. The one that gets loaded during a cold boot is controlled by the presence or absence of the file /USER/PRG.FLG. If this file is missing, create on (just a empty file). If it exists,, copy it to your testmode SD (for safety) then delete it.  DON"T touch anything else. If this doesn't work, it is easily reversible.

Yes he does not have the ND-TMC10. I will check out the PRG.FLG option and report back. .
