Help with AHV-4100NEX hard keys not responding.

Recommended Posts

Hello all, first post here... I just upgraded receivers from the AVIC-x850bt to the AVH-4100NEX and I am having problems right away. This unit is used so I do not know the history, advertised to be in perfect working order, and seller appears to be very reputable... but I installed it yesterday and the buttons on the lower panel are not responding; ( volume, menu, seek etc ) They light up blue which I assume is the default color, but nothing happens when they are pressed. The screen is responding very well to every touch. The only thing I have tried to do up to this point is detach and reattach the face plate, any suggestions? Really hoping I did not buy a paper weight as I have been hunting an NEX for some time. Thanks in advance!

Did it get wet... did you use anything to clean the display that might have dripped down in that area?

It didn't get wet in the 24 hours I had it before installing it, but it was bought used so I have no clue what it could be... Really looking for suggestions on the easy things to try I may not be thinking of, or hoping someone knew what was wrong and it was an easy fix.

Some time ago I corresponded with someone whose buttons failed after cleaning the screen. He did it in vertical fashion and some liquid was allowed to drip down the screen and entered the housing below it. After that his buttons started failing.

As for repairing it, I would first see if you can purchase a new display assembly from Pioneer. If so, then I would risk taking the old on apart and try and repair/clean the switch membrane/contacts.

Another alternative would be to buy or make a remote switch for it. Most controls are supported via the remote input (volume, skip, etc.).
