4200NEX dead USB ports?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Android Auto won't start when I connect the phone, and when looking into it more I realized that the ports are just dead. Both of them. :( I had an iPod Classic connected to one, my Andoid phone to the other.

[uPDATE: The SiriusXM receiver is also not detected, works fine on another radio]

So far as I can tell everything else is just fine.

Is there any kind of troubleshooting or suggestions of what to look at? It is under warranty, so any feedback on that process would also be helpful. :). Not really happy to have this at about six months of use, but stuff happens....

My dad has a 3700bhs which was having cold weather issues.  We recently sent it out for repair and recieved it back working perfectly.  We sent it to United Radio Service in NY, which was our closest official warranty repair facility.  They ended up replacing a circuit board, reflashing to the latest software, and doing a full rundown checkout.  It took them about 2 business days after recieving the unit to send it back out.  Didn't get a tracking number or anything, just showed up on the doorstep.  Expect to be without your radio for about 2 weeks.  A few days traveling to them, 2-3 days for repair, then a few days traveling back to you.

You only have to send the head unit itself, you can leave the harness in the car.

I found out that the "dealer" I bought it from on eBay, JB Tools, was not only not authorized, but on the specific list of excluded shops on Pioneer's web site. Wasn't paying attention on the front end, cost me on the back end. :(  I emailed them about this, and they could care less, only saying it was "beyond our return window". Well, I would have been surprised if any seller did it, but if you know that the product you are selling is without the manufacturer's warranty, you could mention that on your site/listing/page. If the peopole still think they are saving enough to run nthe risk, so be it, but it wasn't listed as such, and without doing all the legwork up front it would seem, without further research, that the manufacturer warranty would apply. Guess not. :)  I don't know that I'd ever buy from them again, on Amazon or otherwise.

I found a repair shop on eBay that offered a $120 flat-rate repair. Given hourly rates being what they are, and unknown parts costs, I thought this didn't seem like a horrible deal.

I haven't put it in the car, but I got same day turnaround and it is back here already. He said it was a "microchip" failure, but probably won't say anything more, after all he is all about doing the repairs not telling others how to do them. Given it is a flat rate service I can't complain as it doesn't matter how much or little work he did. I don't have any reason to think it isn't going to work. If it doesn't, I'll report back.
