sthompson11
I've recently installed 8200-NEX (firmware v1.02), and can't seem to get all the pieces to fit together when using an apple device as a media player (in this case, on USB-2). Note: I upgraded from Z1100BT using a 5th generation iPod which had no issues at all. Here's my results from the various devices I own connecting either a lightning or 30 pin cable to USB 2. iPod - 5th Generation - 30 pin cable: Pro - Able to see song progress bar, have "Func." option available to control random & repeat options. Con - Always starts with 1st song in the library regardless of starting vehicle or switching AV sources. Does not remember where it left off iPhone5 iOS 9.0.2 or iPhone 6s iOS 10.2.1 - Lightning Connector (Same Results for both) Pro - Always remembers where it left off, but will return " Paused" when switching AV sources or starting vehicle. Always have to press "play" for music to resume. Con - Can't see progress of song and "Func" not available to control random or repeat. iPod Nano - Lightning cable Pro - Everything work great: remembers where it left off & all additional functions are available. Con - Highest capacity available for a Nano is 16Gb, which is about half of what I need for my media storage. Has anyone else successfully navigated this maze of Apple devices on 8200-NEX? Can anyone confirm the firmware update v1.04 corrects the display (or lack of "Func" options) problem for my iPhone devices? The reason I ask is because the Notice Letter for 1.04 states: "Corrects a music display issue related to iOS 8 and later". If not, does anyone know what that actually means? sthompson11
Update: Just got off of the phone with Pioneer Support. They said "They have never experienced any problems with any Apple devices connected to a 8200-NEX and to send it in for repair". I hate those guys. I couldn't get them to clarify what the firmware update does to help. They just told me to try it. I'm relying even more now on this group for any helpful information. sthompson11
Update: I decided to roll the dice and upgrade from 1.02 to 1.04 and can confirm the "music display issue related to iOS 8 and later" update now adds the ability to change random & repeat settings as well as see the progress of any song on my iPhone 5 or 6s. When you cycle the power on the unit, you will need to press play to resume where you left off, but if changing AV sources while power stays on, you do not. The 5th Gen iPod seems to be behaving better, but is still pretty flakey, mainly when the random function is turned on. I'm satisfied with the way my iPhone 5 is working now, so I really don't plan to mess with the 5th gen any more. I'd say based on my experience (don't use this as the definitive answer), if you want to use an Apple device as a media source on an 8200NEX, and have access to all functionality, you will need the following: Firmware upgrade 1.04 An iPod Nano or any iPhone/iPod Touch capable of iOS version 8 or higher. (I'm sure this applies to iPad as well, just never tried).
tellis
Thought I would add my findings too. My 6200NEX with firmware 1.04 behaves exactly the same as your 8200 when I use my 80GB ipod video (5th gen). Always starts back at the first song and will not remember the playlist it was last using. my ipod nano and iphone function fine but don't have my large collection. I switched to a 128GB usb drive and have my playlists on it setup in folders.
josney
ive got the 4200 and using a 30gb classic video ipod, starts over every time. only way i have figured out is to put it on constant shuffle. which is better for me instead of starting on the same song EVERY TIME. seems like there must be a fix. my other car has the Avic Z140BT Nav and it picks up right where it left off. avic-scott
FWIW, my iPhone 6s even running a beta of iOS 10.3.2 is working great with the 8200. I do wish Apple would open up more apps though such as Waze, etc.
jlarosa1
For an $800+ headunit, there are a lot of annoying misses here. First, I have the same iPod/30 pin connector problem, -i.e returning to the iPod audio source causes the iPod to reset and lose it's place and not continue what it previously was set to do.. It is incredibly inconvenient and inexcusable that it's not fixed or that the tech support doesn't see this problem. I listen to a lot of books on mp3s...this is a showstopper problem. Another problem I have is with the HUGE font pulldown menu in the upper left of the screen. It's a scrollable menu if you have enough sources to cause the menu to go off screen. When you scrolldown, the menu immediately jumps back to the current audio source selection in the menu making the items at the bottom inaccessible. Unforgivable!!! I'm so disappointed. Also not thrilled with CarPlay. retrieving text messages takes an eternity. I think I need to return this. For such a cost, these are not issues that should be forgiven
avic-scott
Hmm, I've never been happier with a head unit as I am with the 8200. Only thing that drove me nuts is when my son tried to connect his Android and get that working. Made me love my iPhone even more. I've used two iPhone 6s and a couple of iPods - all worked as expected and very very well.
Rocinante
My 7th generation iPod Classic 160 GB does resume the song it was playing on the 8200 whenever I switch sources or restart the car. I always leave it permanently attached to the USB extension. However, the issue I am having is that the iPod always shuts off at around the 45th song played. I am using the shuffle play option on 16,000 songs and it is attached to USB2. The iPod does not seem to recharge on this port and it seems to be a battery issue since it displays the "recharge" message after it shuts off. I will try the first USB port and a different cable.
